PASTORS CORNER

Last Sunday, we read from the Scriptures about how

well the people of Nineveh listened to the prophet Jonah
and were spared destruction and punishment. We also
learned that Jesus started His preaching and He chose
the first four of His Disciples: Simon(Peter), Andrew,
James and John.
Today we begin with Deuteronomy, the last Book written by Moses. People were concerned about who would
lead them after Moses. So Moses himself told the people, that the Lord would raise up a prophet and that God
would put words into His mouth. However, the people
would have to listen to him and not harden their hearts
against him.
When Jesus came on the scene, as we read today from
the Gospel of Mark, He taught them with authority, like
God Himself. The people were astonished and even demons recognized that Jesus was no ordinary prophet.
Priests and prophets are men and women chosen by God
and the Church, to come to the assistance of Gods people. Men are ordained to the priesthood by the Church,
in the name of Christ. These men, unworthy as they are,
are given authority to teach and guide the people on their
journey to Heaven, the Eternal Promised Land
Let us pray for the Pope, the Bishops, the Priests and
Deacons of our Church, that they are spiritually connected with Christ and that they lead by example. Let us
also pray for many vocations to the Priesthood.

HE TAUGHT WITH AUTHORITY

February 03 ST BLASE
Blas was an early fourth-century bishop of Sebaste in Armenia. In the Middle Ages, his cult
spread throughout the Church, especially to France and Germany. Tapers brought to him in
prison and his patronage of sore throat sufferers are united in the ritual blessing of throats using blessed candles.

Saint Paul Miki and Companions

Paul Miki was born in Japan between 1564 and 1566. After entering the Society of Jesus, he
preached the Gospel to his fellow countrymen and won many to the Faith. As persecution
against the Catholics intensified, he was arrested with twenty-five others. They were mocked
and tormented and finally crucified at Nagasaki on February 5, 1597

HFCA and EARLY LEARNING CENTER CELEBRATE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

Holy Family Catholic Academy and ELC celebrated Catholic Schools Week (Jan 26-Feb 2)
with much fanfare. Through lots of special activities and events, we reminded ourselves of
how lucky we are to be members of a Catholic School Community and able to enjoy all it
has to offer. We love that we are in a place that we can come to every day: to work, to learn,
to play together and to grow in our Catholic Faith as one Community under God.
We are blessed to have a wonderfully supportive pastor in Father Sebastian, committed Faculty and Staff members, and dedicated families and volunteers, who enable us to be a great
school that benefits all our students. Mahalo to everyone for a super Catholic Schools Week.

SALVATION HISTORY

1. After the Sin of Adam and Eve, and

their Fall from Grace, God gave them
the hope of salvation, by promising Redemption
2. About the Year 1850 (that is 2000 years
before Christ) God selected Abraham to
be the Father of the Israelites, His Chosen People
3. Abraham had a son whom he called
Isaac. Isaac had two sons. Esau and
Jacob. Jacob had 12 Sons. Jacobs given
name was Israelwhich means, the
one who wrestled with God. So,
Jacob became the Father of the twelve
tribes of Israel.
4. In about the Year 1250 BC, God chose
Moses to lead the Israelites out of their
captivity in Egypt into the promised

MOSES WROTE THE FIRST FIVE

BOOKS OF THE BIBLE, BEFORE HE
DIED. These contain various facts and
stories, teachings and history of the people of Israel. People sort of replaced the
ten Commandments with the Pentateuch
and their interpretations, many of which
Jesus Himself rejected.
