Honoring Reverend Andrew J. Thon, S.J., Vice President of Student Affairs

Whereas: Rev. Andy Thon, S.J., has been an integral part of the Marquette
University community since 1989, having previously served as
Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs and as Associate Vice
President of Student Affairs; and,

Whereas: Rev. Thon became Marquette University’s Vice President of Student

Affairs in 1997; and,

Whereas: Rev. Thon has served as the Hall Minister at Victor McCormick
Residence Hall since 1990; and,

Whereas: Rev. Thon announced he is stepping down from his position at the
end of the 2007-2008 academic year; and,

Whereas: In his position as Vice President of Student Affairs, he has had a direct
impact on the experience of students as he is responsible for
overseeing the Counseling Center, the Recreational Sports, Student
Health Services, and the Offices of Residence Life and Student
Development; and,

Whereas: Rev. Thon has been an outspoken advocate for students and their
concerns during his entire career; and,

Whereas: The University community as a whole is saddened to see the

departure of a devoted and caring individual.

Therefore: Let it be resolved that Marquette University Student Government

commends Rev. Andrew J. Thon, S.J., for his excellent tenure at
Marquette University and wishes him all the best in his future
endeavors.

Furthermore: Let it be recommended that Marquette University Student

Government encourages the University to find a way to permanently
commemorate the service of Rev. Thon.
