Bonjour Parents!
Thank you to all the students and parents who came out to student-led
conferences! What a joy to see students taking charge of their learning by
sharing what they are proud of and what they still need to work on.
I have created a survey on our website (link is on far right at the top) that I
would love for you to fill out. Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Here is a link to the survey, new calendar, recent photos and February
newsletter: http://madameharshenin.weebly.com/

Health and Writing-What is a true friend?, Anti-bullying
Science-Solar system and Animal adaptations and habitats

Valentine's Day
If you have any extra Valentine's stickers, small toys or school supplies for
our class store, I would really appreciate any donations you might have.
Valentine's Cards-Students are welcome to bring in cards for every person
in the class. Grade 3s have been practicing cursive handwriting so a great
challenge might be to write their names in handwriting if they like. Just a
friendly reminder not to leave it all to the last nig

Raconte et Montre
Sorry about last week where some students brought in a special object, and
we did not have time to present them! With the shortened day, we ran out of
time!! Let's reschedule to this Friday!!

As well, children are asked to bring another special object on their Chou
Chou day to show the class. Brand-name toys are not encouraged, but I'd like
to suggest a family or pet photo, a trophy, medal or badge from an activity
or sport, an object related to art, science, social studies, math or any of our
current themes, a souvenir from a trip or a gift they have received. Their
presentation is a portion of their oral expression mark so I ask that they know
what their object is in French and can answer basic questions in French such
as:
The questions we will be asking in French are:
Qu'est-ce que c'est?
What is it?
O l' as-tu reu?
Where did you get it?
Qui l'a donn toi?
Who gave it to you?
Pourquoi est-ce que c'est spciale toi? Why is it special to you?
Quand as-tu reu cet objet spciale?
When did you get it?
I appreciate you reviewing the calendar so your child knows when his Chou
Chou day is and is well-prepared to answer questions about a special object.
Merci beaucoup!!

Les Sciences
Students did a great job researching an animal project of a Canadian animal
of their choice. They showed their animal projects to 2 other classes as the
experts. Bravo!
Mr.Wilson will come to our class one more time to talk about why animals
were and are important to the First Nations culture.
We will be having a guest from the Okanagan Science club doing a fun and
informative presentation on the Properties of Matter (gases, liquids and
solids) on 25th. This event will cost $4 and will be collected closer to the date.
Les Mathmatiques
Let's work really hard to practice carrying over and adding and subtracting
basic equations up to 20 in February!
Students will also be working on measurement starting with the calendar,
time and money.
Here are some examples:
If it is 4:50 and you read for 20 minutes, what time will it be?
How much more $ do I need an item is 50 cents and I only have 25C?
Language Arts
We continue to work on Daily 5 stations and the 6 + 1 Writing Habits each
week.
Grade 3 English Language Arts- We continue to work on Phonics in
English! This is such an important foundation for reading using the English
sounds. We have also started practising handwriting and are just finishing up
our Freckle Juice novel. Students will be doing English reading and writing
assessments at the end of February.
This newsletter is becoming a short novel. Thank you to those who have
stuck with it and kept reading!!
