there is a series ony14 like y14.1, y14.2, y14.3, etc where why 14.1 is drawing
size
and sheet format, whats and A size drawing and whats b size drawing etc...Y14.2
is
line types and lettering convetions, what center line look like where do u use o
ne,
whats an object line look like , what a hidden line look like...so somebody has
to
standardise all these and that happened with y 14 series.
M has no real significance , it stands for metric, just means that the standard
was written in metric.
1994 is the current version of the standard.
the version previous to this was ANSI y14.5 - 1982 (ANSI: american national stan
dards institute), prior
to this there was 73 version and prior to that there was 66 version which was t
he time of industry revolution.
The reason we use these standards is that they are based on physical reality. th
ere are other standards but they
are not based on physical reality.
Objectives:
Exposure to the language of ASME y14.5-1994 Dimensioning and Tolerancing
gain an appreciation of the advantages of GD&T
Gain an appreciation of the complexity of the ASME y14.5-1994 standard
its a language just like other languages, it seems complex at first but if u lea
rn it, it will become fluent.
GD&T is a means of dimensioning and tolerancing a part with respect to relations
hip and function.
The word relationship means how the part features related to other part features
or assembilability
or just going good together but just going good together isnt good enough, afte
r it goes together
the assembly is got to do what it is designed for one of the functions(the word
is self explanatory)
its important to producing a part that actually works the way we want then just
designing.
