Action Adventure Games

An action-adventure game can be defined as a game with a mix of elements

from an action game and an adventure game, especially crucial elements like
puzzles. Action-adventures require many of the same physical skills as action
games, but also offer a storyline, numerous characters, an inventory system,
dialogue, and other features of adventure games. Action Adventure games are
faster paced the just pure adventure games because it requires physical skill to
be able to complete challenges. Action Adventure games usually include a
combination of difficult story elements, which are displayed for players using
audio and video. The story is heavily reliant upon the player character's
movement, which triggers story events and thus affects the flow of the game.
The uses and gratifications of action adventure games show that people play
these types of games for that escapism feeling, to be able to make decisions
they wouldnt have to make in the real world. These games are used for a
diversion, to escape from everyday problems and routines.
A good example of an Action Adventure game would be Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls
V: Skyrim is an action role-playing video game in first person developed by
Bethesda Game Studios. Skyrim's main story revolves around the player
character's efforts to defeat Alduin the world eater, a Dragon who is prophesied
to destroy the world. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests
and develops their character by improving their skills. Skyrim has an open world
tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the
game world at any time and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

Most action adventure games have the open world experience, another example
would be the Far Cry games. Far Cry 3 is a first-person shooter with an openended gameplay and story, which also features role-playing game elements
including experience points, skill trees, and a crafting system.

Red Dead Redemption is an open world, western action-adventure video game

developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. Red Dead
Redemption is played from a third-person perspective in an open world
environment, allowing the player to interact with the game world at their leisure.
The player can travel the virtual world, a fictionalized version of the Western

United States and Mexico, primarily by horseback and on foot. The game, set
during the decline of the American Frontier in the year 1911, follows John
Marston, a former outlaw whose wife and son are taken hostage by the
government in ransom for his services as a bounty hunter. Having no other
choice, Marston sets out to bring the three members of his former gang to
justice.

Assassin's Creed is a historical fiction action-adventure open world stealth video

game viewed in third person. The Assassin's Creed games primarily revolves
around the rivalry between two ancient secret societies: the Assassins and the
Knights Templar, and their indirect relation to an ancient species pre-dating
humanity, whose society, along with much of Earth's biosphere, was destroyed
by a massive solar storm. This game allows you choose what outcome you want
with your assassinations.

As you can see the last two games I have talked about are in third person, so not
all action adventure games are in first person.
Grand Theft Auto is an action-adventure video game series. Most games in the
series are set in fictional locales modelled on American cities, usually either
Liberty City, Vice City, or San Andreas, which are stand-ins for New York City,
Miami, and Southern California, respectively. The first 2D titles encompassed
three fictional cities, while 3D and HD titles tend to emphasise a single city and
its outlying areas. Gameplay focuses on an open world where the player can
choose missions to progress an overall story, as well as engaging in side
activities, all consisting of action-adventure, driving, third-person shooting,
occasional role-playing, stealth, and racing elements. The series has gained
controversy for its adult nature and violent themes.

The series focuses around many different protagonists who attempt to rise
through the ranks of the criminal underworld. Each game in this series allows
players to take on the role of a criminal or a wannabe in the big city, typically an
individual who plans to rise through the ranks of organised crime through the
course of the game. The player is given various missions by kingpins and major
idols in the city underworld which must be completed to progress through the
storyline. Assassinations and other violent crimes are featured regularly.
Occasionally taxi driving, firefighting, street racing, bus driving, or learning to fly
helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft are also involved.
