DATA

PROCESSING
CYCLE

WHAT IS DATA PROCESSING?

The conversion of raw data to a meaningful
information through a process.
Data is manipulated to produce results that lead
to a resolution of a problem or improvement of an
existing situation
The computer system processes data into
information through four operations:
1. input
2. process
3. storage
4. output.

INPUT

Any data or instructions that we enter into the

computer system for processing.
The user enters the data by using an input device
(such as keyboard, mouse, scanner) electronically
and is processed by the processor.
CPU accept instruction from the user and
translates the instruction into readable
information.

PROCESS
Data

is manipulated to process
or transform it into information
in the processing operation.

The

processing unit controls all

activities within the system.

STORAGE
Storage

is a location which data,

instruction and information are held
for future use.
The storage (such as hard disk,
compact disc (CD), diskettes) holds
data, information and
programs.

EXAMPLES:

Diskette

Hard Disk

Compact Disc

OUTPUT
Data

that has been processed into a

useful information.
The output devices (such as monitor,
printer) present the processed data as
useful information products to the user.
There are 4 types of output:
1. Text
2. Graphic
3. Audio
4. Video
