6.0 Findings
Finding through observation of United Commercial Bank Limited in
Foreign Exchange Business:
Insufficient presence of modern communication equipment.
Application of modern technology such as computerization is not sufficient.
Poor conditions of balance of payments of United Commercial Bank Ltd.
Lack of enthusiastic scheme for exporter & importer.
Less attractive remuneration package and motivation for the employees.
Lack of fair entrepreneur class.
Knowledge of entrepreneur about foreign trade policy is so poor.
Finding from the operation analysis of Foreign Exchange department of
UCBL:
The foreign exchange business of United Commercial Bank Ltd. is
increasing at a faster rate.
UCBLs total import, export and remittance for the year of 2002 were
14,975.30, 5,620.90 & 735 million taka respectively. That is higher compare
to the year 2001and 2000.
The bank has an increased operation in letters of credit issuing business in
the year 2002. Although in the year 2001 the bank had a bad time in import
business but in the Year 2002 it regain its position, as in the year 2001 the
amount of import was Tk.13975.30 million but in the year 2002 it was
Tk.14975.3million.
The amount of remittance is all most double in the year 2002 compare. As
the amount is Tk.735 million in the year 2002 and in the year 2001 it was
Tk. 400 million.
Finding from the comparative analysis of UCBL with Islamic bank, AB
bank, Exim bank, Dhaka bank, Mercantile bank.

Islamic bank is in the first position of export process in the year 2002. And
with Tk. 7179 million businesses the United Commercial Bank has in the 3 rd
position.
Exim bank has made the most of the import process in the year 2002. Exim
has made Tk.16889 million processing in the year 2002, on the other hand
United Commercial bank has in the 2nd position by processing Tk.14975
million in the year 2002.
The Dhaka bank is in the first position of processing foreign remittance. The
United Commercial bank has Tk.600 million foreign remittances that give it
the 2nd position compare to other banks.
