SUBSEA INTEGRITY

Dr Jerry Baker
Jerry is an independent consultant in the area of subsea
integrity management. He is a Chartered Engineer who has
been one of the leading lights in the development of
integrity management as a discipline over the past 20 years.
He was previously the Head of Life Cycle Management
for Subsea and Pipelines in Atkins Oil & Gas, and before
that was Head of Pipeline Engineering for Shell Expro.
Jerry was the lead author of the Guidelines for the
management of integrity of subsea facilities (2009) and of
the Guidelines for the management of obsolescence in
subsea facilities (2011), both published by the Energy
Institute. He facilitates the Good Operational Practice
Forum of the UK Pipeline Users Group (PLUG) and was lead author of the guidance documents that
have now been compiled into PD8010-5:2013 Subsea pipelines Guide to operational practice. He is
an active member of the PARLOC Steering Group, and of the steering committee for the updating of
API RP 17NRecommended Practice for Subsea Production System Reliability and Technical Risk

management of subsea facilities into a single discipline of Life Cycle Management. He has published
a number of papers on integrity management.
Jerry holds a BSc in Nautical Studies (1978) (he originally spent twelve years as a navigating officer
in the Merchant Navy), and an MSc in Marine Technology (Newcastle University, 1979), and was
awarded a PhD (Strathclyde University, 1989) for a thesis on ROV hydrodynamics. He is a Fellow of
the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, and a Fellow of the Society for
Underwater Technology. In 2012, Subsea UK presented him with the award for Outstanding
