2006 Metal Building Systems Manual 1 ase it BemA. There ale two categories of movement related wo the operation of cranes. Fist, there are those building movement: induced by the crane operation that affect the Dexfonince of the building. The limits given in the previous sections ate aypropaate for the control of building movements induced by crane operation. The second category of movements iicludes those induced by other loads (pechaps in combination with crane forces), which affect the perfomance of the cranes Iheaselves. This second area will be covered here. Three types of cranes will be discussed: pendan-operated traveling cranes, cab-operated traveling cranes. and jb Cres. The reader should refer © ASCE 7-05 for ils weatmeat of crane foads (Gestion 10) as aspecal case ove loads. Another category of movements includes those that affect the lateral alignment of the runways, First the lateral deflections of the rinways themselves should be lnnited to epen divided by 400 to avoid objectionable visual lteral movements. The loading in this case is the lateral crane force (CMAA, 1999). Secon the relative lateral movements of ‘support points must be controlled to prevent the runways from moving apart or together. ‘This will prevent the wheels from either jumping the rails or altemutvely hating the ‘langes bind against the rls. Loads affecting the inward or outward movement of support points are thove applied to the structure ater the aligument ofthe ras. Inward movement is by aud large the result of crane loads, whereas outward movements are caused by roof loads, chiefly high snow Toads ‘The allowable amount of inward movement is controlled by the aranzement and proportions of the wheel flange spacing and should be coordinated with the crane supplier. The control of inward movements can be on the order of 1 i. total. (Outward column deflections at crane rmway elevations should be limited so that the total spread of the minways will aot exceed I in The appropriate loading is snow load. It is sugzested that the roof snow load be taken as zero in areas where the 50- year mow ie 13 pf or lesz. When evaluating thc differential movement, 50 percent Of the roof snow lozd should be taken in areas where the roof snow load is between 13 pafand 31 paf and three quarters of the roof snow should be used where the roof snow loads greater than 31 ps. ‘Metal Bulding Systems Mama TE Serricesiiny Tabeas ‘Servieeabilty Considerations - Equipment Soupment | STRUCTURAL | peccawanon | RECOMMENDATION | Lamon: TYPE ELEMENT, Note: Thesis cg pubtensny ASC n Deson Guile No So Tale 35 contaned 2 ee wncnhas bean imaeitea ne args’ gue ‘Sper cranee ana Top mung Pencart pers Graves wee racine ewes.
