knowledge on the United Nations.

1. Explain the meaning of the U.N. emblem.

The design of the U.N emblem is the world map. The olive branches depict
the areas of concern the United Nations need in achieving its main purpose,
peace and security.
2. How many countries are members of the U.N. today?

193 countries are members of the U.N.


3. How might you describe the U.N. General Assembly? What happens when it convenes?

When the U.N General Assembly meets regularly and in special sessions to
consider the world's most pressing problems
4. Does the General Assemblys vote matter? Why or why not?

The Assembly cannot force action by any State, but its recommendations
are an important indication of world opinion and represent the moral
authority of the community of nations.

5. What is unique about the U.N.s headquarters?

Four of the five principal organs are located at the main UN Headquarters in
New York City.
6. What are the main goals of the U.N.?

Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security,


promoting human rights, fostering social and economic development,
protecting the environment, and providing humanitarian aid in cases of
famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict.

8. What was the League of Nations, and how does it relate to the U.N.?

The League of Nations was the ineffective organization before the United
Nations. The League of Nations had failed its primary purpose, which was to
prevent any future world war. It relates to the U.N because the overall
objective is to keep peace between all the nations.
9. In what ways was the League of Nations an example of early globalization? Identify at least
two.

Because the cooperations of groups is an example of globalizations.


10.Why did the League of Nations fail? Identify at least two reasons.

The League lacked its own armed forces and didnt do job at preventing
another world war.

The U.N was created October 24, 1995.This organization was created during

the Second World War so something like that didnt happen again.

13.Why might the League of Nations be considered the forerunner of the United Nations?

Because it is the same concept.

Is powers include the establishment of peacekeeping operations, the


establishment of international sanctions, and the authorization of military
action through Security Council resolutions; it is the only UN body with the
authority to issue binding resolutions to member states. There 15 countries
involved.

15.Why might the structure and operation of the Security Council be problematic? In other
words, what principle does it appear to violate? Identify two issues.

2. What is the title of the U.N.s leader, and who currently holds this position? How is this
position used to counterbalance the strength of some U.N. members?
He is known as the Secretary General, currently Ban Ki-Moon holds the position. Its
usually filled by a member of a smaller country that is neutral in policies
3. What do you feel is the future of the U.N.? Does it have a place in todays world? Why or why
not? What can it do to improve its position? Write a 5-6 sentence paragraph explaining
your views.
I think it is an organization that is no longer of importance. The way that the world is
today no longer needs an organization like the UN. The difference in the world and
countries makes for a tougher situation for there to be world peace. Many times it
seems that member countries do not want to go along with all of the other countries
and are not committed. I feel that it almost looks like it is a waste of time and effort
to be involved as a member country.
