Grief Busters
Summary:
Week ones session will focus on the loss of a significant other and
how it affects each person differently. We will address the grieving
process and how it is natural and a part of life; each student will get
the chance to address their individual loss and what they miss most
about their significant other.
Time Frame:
Approx. 1 hour
Procedure/Activity:
1. Introductions
2. Discuss Confidentiality
3. Ice Breaker
A. Write down 1 interesting fact about yourself and
put it in the bucket provided.
B. Draw one piece of scrap paper out of the bucket;
saying the fact out loud; and group guesses who it
belongs to.
4. Pre-Assessment Worksheet on Grief/Loss
5. Beading Activity
A. Student gets one piece of string; either size for
bracelet or necklace.
B. Student designs their necklace with whatever
beading or color they feel describe the time in
their life with their significant other that they loss.
It could describe the person, or how they felt in
the past with their significant other.
C. After designing their necklace, students will take
turns to discuss why they designed their necklace
in a particular way.
6. Discuss the subject of Grief/Loss and how it is
natural.
A. Describe how all people experience grief/loss.
