Employability Skills Activity 1: The Dress for Success Project! The students are asked to create a
newsletter or a collage showing 5 men and 5 women who are dressed appropriately for a job interview,
the workforce, or a FBLA competition. They are also allowed to dress professionally three times each
nine weeks in exchange for having their lowest grade dropped. They must come by my room and show
me their professional dress once in the morning and once in the afternoon to earn one point.
Standard:
BMA-IBT, BT, and BC-1: Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry.
1.6 Present a professional image through appearance, behavior, and language.

Employability Skills Activity 2: The Unethical Work Behavior Skit! The class is divided up into six
groups of five to research and present in the form of a skit unethical work behavior in the following six
categories: Racial Discrimination, Gender Discrimination, Age Discrimination, Discrimination against
People with Disabilities, Embezzlement, and Sexual Harassment in the Workforce. The students are
asked to complete two in depth article critiques pertaining to their topic. They are graded using the
following rubric:
Knowledge of Content 40%
Group Participation 30%
Skit Performance 30%

Employability Skills Activity 3: Introduction to Business and Technology - The Cover Letter using the
Mail Merge Process! Business Communications Updating the Cover Letter
Objectives include the following:
-

An Attractive Letterhead
A well-written, properly formatted cover letter that presents solid evidence of the students
writing skills and provides insight into his/her personality.
The letter should contain proper grammar, correct spelling, logically constructed sentences,
flowing paragraphs, and sound ideas.

Employability Skills Activity 4: Create or Update a Successful Resume!


Objectives include the following:

The resume should present, at a minimum, contact information, the objective, educational
background, and work experience.
The resume should honestly present all positive points.
The resume should be error free.

Employability Skills Activity 5: International Business! The students are asked to create a PowerPoint
Presentation highlighting all the diverse employability skills required by different countries. They get to
work in groups of two and must give a 5-10 informative speech highlighting effective business practices
and business etiquette for the different nations they are assigned.

Standards:
BMA-IBT, BT, and BC-1: Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry.

Employability Skills Activity 6: Interview Preparation: Strengths and Weaknesses Students were to
list 5 strengths and 3 weaknesses. In a 100-word summary, students were to discuss how they would
improve on their weakness. This activity is a BAA activity for FBLA members. Identifying strengths and
weaknesses by students will help them examine themselves as well as prepare them for one of the most
common interview questions.

Employability Skills Activity 7: Microsoft Office 2013! All classes are taught to use five components of
the Microsoft Office 2013 suite: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher. These computer skills
will guarantee the expertise that the students need to be successful in any 21st century occupation.

Employability Skills Activity 8: Job Shadowing Day Several students in the Business and Technology
Pathway were chosen to represent the county for job shadowing day. The select students in return are
required to bring back the business skills and expertise they learned and present that information to all
classes within the pathway.
