Technology Integrated Lesson
The Content:
1. The context for this lesson is for students to create a mock interview with a
famous historical figure. For this, a lot of prior knowledge will be used because
the students have been learning about the historical figures for several years.
Therefor, this lesson will elicit the students imagination, and also work on their
technological skills. The students will be in pairs where one is the interviewer and
the other the interviewee, and with their Chrome Books, they will record their
interview using a program such as IMovie, or YouTube screencast.
2. It is always important for the students to continue developing their technological
skills, so that part of the content can be used in future situations. Also, this lessons
will involve trying to get in the mind of several important historical figures, which
helps students expand their imagination and discourse skills.
The Environment:
3. By requiring the students to work in pairs to create an interview format, followed
by making a video, this lesson provides the students with a necessary challenge.
The technology definitely enhances the lesson because it will help inspire the
students to be more creative in their responses. By using this technology, the class
will be engaging in several ISTE standards. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving,
and Decision Making will be covered because the assignment requires students to
plan and manage their interview project while using the appropriate digital tools.
Communication & Collaboration will be covered because this project requires
students to work together to complete a task that requires a digital program.
Throughout the process, the pairs need to be working together in order to best
complete their task. Technology Operations, and Concepts is covered when the
students show that they understand how to use their Chrome Books, and the video
software that is required to create the video.
This project gives students a great opportunity to advance their technological
skills and understanding by using the Chrome Books. The interview could
definitely be completed without being video recorded, but by doing this; the
students will be exposed to a more authentic interpretation of a historical figure
that could be used as an important study tool in the future. A project like this is
something that students would not forget. Therefor, the information that they learn
during this activity will be remembered well because re-enacting, or re-creating

potential scenes or events from the past is a very useful and interesting way to
learn about history.
The Lesson:
1. Historical Re-enactment/8th Grade/American History/Feb 2, 2015
2. Performance Objective: The students will develop a further understanding of
historical figures while also advancing their technological abilities as it pertains
to the classroom. It is important for students to do hands on activities like this
because it will help them understand historical topics, and in this case,
technological devices more. These skills are imperative to continue developing
as students continue their education because it will ensure more success in future
tasks.
3. Rationale: This lesson has the potential to connect with several ISTE Standards
that helps develop students abilities. The ISTE standards the lesson connects to
include Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making,
Communication & Collaboration, & Technology Operations and Concepts. By
encompassing this many ISTE standards, students will be exposed to a large
amount of expectations regarding technology. Since technology is being
incorporated into more classrooms, being comfortable with working with
technology along with other classmates is imperative in students careers.
4. Assessment Strategy: The video the students create will serve as their
assessment. It will be assessed based off of creativity, fluency, and historical
accuracy. It is not expected that students with create perfect videos, but their
effort to produce their best work is the goal.
5. Accommodations For Exceptional Learners: If there are students that need
accommodations, they will be met by the teacher. For example, if there is a
student that has difficulty with their vision or hearing, they will be placed at the
front of the classroom. Also, the teacher will be circulating the classroom at all
times available to field questions.
6. Academic Language:
a. Language Function: Construct
b. Key Vocabulary: Screencast, Re-Enactment, Interview
c. Additional Language Demands: Students will use their discourse abilities
when creating their interview video. Students will also be using their
discourse abilities while collaborating with each other during the task.
d. Language Supports: By creating an interview outline, students will be able to
construct a mock interview video.
7. Grouping Strategy: The students will pick their partners that they will create
interview questions, and also record their interview with.
8. Materials: ChromeBooks, Worksheets.

Enactment:
Hook (3-5 min)

Student Aim (2-4 min)

Development (20-25 minutes)

Bring out ChromeBooks for

students to use.
Make sure each student knows how
to turn on the computers and sign
into their school accounts.
Introduce topic for lesson.
Todays lesson will challenge the
students creativity, technological
skills, and their historical
interpretation.
We will be creating a mock
interview with a famous historical
figure.
By completing this task, the
students will be working with the
following ISTE standards: Critical
Thinking, Problem Solving, and
Decision Making. Communication
& Collaboration. And finally,
Technology Operations and
Concepts.
Show the students how to access
their monitor cameras, and how to
record their interviews using
IMovie, or on their YouTube
accounts.
Have students pick partners to work
with.
The students will be assigned
historical figure to interview. This
will include: George Washington,
Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther
King Jr., and George W. Bush.
The students need to quickly
develop questions for their
interview. These questions should
cover who the person is, what their
jobs were, and also discuss an issue
they dealt with.
The interview does not need to be
extensive. However, it is important
that the students use their prior
knowledge when developing

Culmination (3-4 min)

Leap (2 min)

questions and answers that will be

included in the interview.
Discuss students experience
creating the interview.
What were their strategies?
Were there any difficulties?
Explain to the students that this task
was important in their development
with history and technology.
Completing a hands on task that recreates, or re-enacts a historical
event is an interesting way to learn
that is memorable, and can be used
as a study tool in the future.
Being able to understand this type
of technology is also imperative
because future tasks, teacher may
ask students to watch or create
videos outside of class. By
completing this assignment,
students will have a great
understanding of how recording and
accessing video content can be
achieved.
Tomorrow we will watch the videos
you all created for the first part of
the class.
