Goldstar Framing (Summer, Fall 2002)


Responsibilities: Assembly of walls, floors, & roofs, from nominal lumber as well as movement and cutting
of materials. Some drafting work was produced for a small number of single-family dwellings.
Key Achievements: I produced a series of house plans and elevations for Jay Mikel, owner of Goldstar
Framing. Soon after I had the opportunity to help frame this house, and it was therefore the first house for
which I was able to draw plans, and to construct.

Perry L. Butcher & Associates Architects (Summer 1999 to Spring 2000)


Responsibilities: Visits to the Wal-Mart home office to retrieve as-built plans, various site visits,
production of redline drawings for cad draftsmen, & production of various presentation renderings for
Lowe’s stores and Wal-Mart stores.
Key Achievements:
I assisted Perry L. Butcher with a design for a High Rise Concept for Brownstone Development LLC (Fall
2003)
Production of existing compilation floor plans of vacant stores for the purpose of demising and real estate
development.

As an Architecture student at the U of A, I was fortunate to be able to study Architectural History,


Conceptual Design, Structural Design, as well as Mechanical systems design and construction systems
which are the current industry standards. The five months I spent studying in Europe was also a very
fascinating experience. The faculty was also very gracious in that I was given the chance to research
Carbon Fiber Composite materials in an academic architectural context.

2000-2001 Judson University – Studies in Art, Design, & Architecture

I began at Judson studying graphic design and fine arts. I developed as an artist in that semester, and
chose to study architecture and technical drawing in the spring semester.

Areas of study / Key Endeavors:

I studied in a few classes at John Brown while in High School. One of which focused on graphic design
software, the other being a study of human form. In this figure drawing class I was able to learn about
skeletal structure, muscle groups, etc., and this study has continued to influence my approach to design.
