The starter looks to introduce the concept of Victorian
crime and punishment by analysing a historical
source.
As this is a short 20 minute lesson, the lesson is built
around the main activity, which aims to incorporate a
sense of empathy and understanding Victorian
children and punishment. This activity helps to
incorporate cooperation between students and build
on higher level skills such as analysing/forming
judgements.
Extension activities:
Word search + matching definition
This extension gives the opportunity for students to
independently investigate the definitions of key
words from the period by first finding them in the
word search and then linking them to their
definitions.
Writing a full sentence answer/letter
This activity gives the opportunity for students to
practice their literacy skills but writing a persuasive
letter to a Victorian policeman.
