Coming Up...
We will be starting a fun activity in Language
Arts this week called Syntax Surgery! Scholars will
have to fix a sentence with jumbled-up words! Their
knowledge of nouns, verbs, and adjectives, as well as
their phonogram and blending skills, will all come into
play as they make complete, correct sentences!
In math, the scholars are continuing their
learning of number bonds! I was amazed at how so
many scholars began grasping this important concept
quickly! We will be working with manipulatives and in
our math books to solidify this concept!
This week, the scholars are learning about
Presidents and American Symbols. We have lots of
fun books to read and activities to complete this
week!

Learning & Practicing Phonograms - Theres An App for that!

At Paideia, scholars learn their phonograms using the Spalding
method. This system helps them to memorize the many different sounds a
single letter or combination of letters can make, and how to apply these
sounds to words as they read. For both Apple and Android, the Spalding
company offers an app that can help you review phonograms at home! This
app costs $3.99. I also explored a FREE app called Phonogram Sounds by
All About Learning Press that is quite similar to Spalding (there are a few
discrepancies in some of the letter sounds, but nothing I would worry
about). If you can, try downloading one of these apps and have your scholar
practice their letter sounds at home! Remember, letter sound knowledge
is the basis of reading! Thanks, and have fun! :)
