SDI Lesson Plan Assignment

1) Write a lesson plan that reflects the inclusion of differentiated or specially-designed

instruction to meet the needs of the diverse learners in your classroom, including those
students with disabilities. Your lesson plan should reflect the Standard with which your
lesson is aligned, the Learning Objective for the lesson, the teaching and learning
activities students will be engaged in to achieve the learning objective, opportunities for
guided practice, and a way to assess if students have achieved an adequate understanding
of the presented lesson.
Standard: CORE.4.MD.1. Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units
including km m cm; kg g; lb oz.; l ml; hr min sec. Within a single system of measurement
express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement
equivalents in a two column table. For example know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in.
Express the length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing
the number pairs (1 12) (2 24) (3 36) ... - CORE.4.MD.1.
Objective: Students will be able to convert between kilograms and grams
Relevance: Develops Knowledge of conversions and the skills to calculate them

Teaching and Learning Activities

Smart Start
Brainpop! Gams and Kilograms
Notes: (Kilo)gram Conversion
Independent: (Kilo)gram Conversion

Differentiated/Specially-designed instruction
Smart Start Worksheet only has one question
per page
Student sits directly in front of the computer all
other students remain in seat
Teacher uses two different color markers so
that the student can follow along with
conversion and the student is able to use
markers as well
Guided chart as graphic organizer to fill in the
blank without chart

2) Provide a rationale/explanation for the selection of the differentiated/specially-designed

instruction you have included in your lesson based on the needs of your students.
The Chart with and without letters, the read aloud, and pictures help with auditory kinesthetic
and visual learners. The guided chart as a graphic organizer is used to fill in the blank without
chart.
