Game Design- The Need & The Problem:
By: Fabiana Gaspar
Interviewed person: Hanan Kamati
1. Who is the client? Give a brief personal background:
My client is hanan. She is 12 and her first language is portuguese and which makes
language (french) a bit hard for her. Hanan is from Mozambique and has 3 brothers
and 1 sister currently in the same school as her. She is in grade 7 and her favorite
classes are: humanities, english, art and drama and she enjoys the art of designing,
drawing and reading. In french Hanan has trouble in pronouncing and defining parts of
speech such as verbs, adverbs and more.
2. Describe the situation in detail:
As mentioned before Hanan has difficulties in french, she mainly has issues with the
parts of speech in french pronouncing and defining parts of speech such as verbs,
adverbs and more. Hanan gets average grades but intends to improve those skills by
the end of the year and I chose to make a game to helps her. This game will be fun
and educational based to her needs.
3. Explain why there is a need to address this situation:
I chose to help this client because I care for her and I know how hard she works to get
a good grade so I intend to make a game to improve her skills in french. Along this
game making process I will also learn a few words in french and increase my language
skills.
4. Discuss how to address this problem:
I plan to create a game based on an english app my brother used to play. I will create
clouds, these clouds will contain words that form a sentence if put in the correct
place. You need to click on the clouds in order and hear the sentence repeat itself to
you in order to learn to pronounce the words correctly. The words will be vocab she
already knows and a few challenging ones. The aim of this game is to learn how to use
words in a proper sentence (grammar booster) This will all come down to better
grades hopefully.

5. Things I need to remember when making my game:

Hanan enjoys adventure and fun games which she also mentioned help her as a
learner since she is a kinetic learner too.

This game went like

this.
The
wizards
palace is right ahead
and you and you have to
get there, in order to
get there you would
have to answer math
questions such as 11+13
and 6+4 but there was a
twist to it. You would
have to get there
before a witch right
beside you got to the
hat next to the side of

Basically the aim of the

game was to get out the
cave. You would do this
by collecting coins when
you got the coins a
math question would
pop such as 6x7 or
maybe 5x4 this would
then lead you to a
portal which would then
lead you to another
portal with coins (math
questions) you would
complete the question

The game was based

on a kids memory
game but she had
changed it to be a
periodic
table
match game. Thus
meaning
there
would be a set of
cards ones would be
the symbols to the
other cards which
were the actual
name of the gasses
and
matter

the screen. All this, and

a set time limit of 60
seconds. When you get
a question right it
increases
points
meaning the steps you
took.

basically. There was

also a test tube
making cute science
joke as you went
along which was
perfectly
drawn.
You would have to
do all the matches
within the set time
limit of 1 minute.

by doing math questions

as quick as possible.,
before time runs out, if
it does, you lose the
game and the character
will then die

couldnt learn.

The aim was

quite
poorly

the game was not

I think this game was

perfect except for the
fact that it had no
instructions. Either than
that the game was
really cool.

I think this game

was also perfect
except for the fact
that it had no
instructions at the
start of the game. I
would also suggest
fixing
the time
limit. From the
minute you start t
starts too, not while
youre busy going
pass the title.

he questions
T
were quite easy
but for lower
grades it would
be something too
easy as well

I think he/ she should

have put a verity of
questions
perhaps
levelled or a mix of
easy
and
harder
questions for all ages to
play.
Along with the above
once there is a question
mention the answer if
not correct.
