Strand/Topic from the Australian Curriculum

Science Understanding (Physical Science/ Energy): Energy
appears in different forms including movement (kinetic
energy), heat and potential energy, and causes change
within systems (ACSSU155)
Science Inquiry Skills (Communicating): Communicate
ideas, findings and solutions to problems using scientific
language and representations using digital technologies as
appropriate (ACSIS148)

Asia and Australias engagement with Asia

Sustainability

Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:
Understand the concept of conservation of energy
Identify different forms of energy
Use a variety of ICT applications to investigate energy types
Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation:

Create Weebly WebQuest Lesson 1

o Create energy types Prezi
o Check all hyperlinks are working and
correct
o Test the ICT in computer lab before lesson
Post Weebly to student access site
Have hard copies and back up lesson in case of
technological issues

Provision for students at educational risk:

Students with ICT difficulties to sit next to a
helpful classmate
Have hard copies for students who have
difficulty starring at computer screen for long
periods

LESSON EVALUATION (to be completed AFTER the lesson)

Assessment of Lesson Objective and Suggestions for Improvement:

Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:

[OFFICIAL USE ONLY] Comments by classroom teacher, HOPP, supervisor:

LESSON DELIVERY (attach worksheets, examples, marking key, etc, as relevant)

Time
11.30am
11.35am

11.37am

Motivation and Introduction:

1. Students will log into own computers and open Weebly from URL
as posted to LearnIt Group Assessment Item 2.
2. Introduction: students will be briefly introduced to topic that will
covered over next four lessons. Teacher will tell students the
purpose of the lesson and what they should be able to achieve by
the end of the lesson.
3. Engage:
Students will be introduced to the idea of conservation of
energy by watching a YouTube clip titled The Athlete
Machine- Redbull Kluge

Resources/References

WebQuest:

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

11.39am

11.41am

11.44am

11.49am

11.53am

4. Explore:
Students will be asked to briefly discuss the conservation of
energy and how this occurred during the video: Who has
heard of the concept of conservation of energy before? Can
anyone give me an example of how this occurred in the
video?
Students are then asked to open the tab called What Is
Energy on the Weebly and complete the online activity
5. Explain:
Students have access to a link to the prepared Prezi on the
Weebly. They are encouraged to follow along on their own
Prezi whilst listening to the teachers explanation.
Teachers explanation on energy types (kinetic, heat, light,
electrical, sound and potential energy)
Students are then asked to research the different forms of
potential energy using the link to an appropriate website on
the Weebly
They are also asked to post 3 examples of potential energy
on Padlet using the link provided on the Weebly.
6. Elaborate:
The YouTube video What is Energy?- Studi Physics is
played on the main projector- students also have a link to this

Childrens University of
Manchester

wish.
7. Evaluate:
Students are asked to return to website Childrens University
of Manchester quiz and complete the activity.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

11.56am

Students will then be asked to view the image on the Weebly

(soccer player) and identify the different types of energy seen
in the picture (class discussion).

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

12.00pm

Students are asked to review any material not covered in

lesson due to time constraints.

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be

judged?)

Informal assessment of knowledge during picture discussion

and observation by teacher of results during online quiz.
