STRATEGIES
Direct instruction
DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION/ ADAPTATIONS/ INTERVENTIONS
The students are used to being introduced to a new topic through a story, so I wanted to include
this in my lesson. I will ask questions for each page to check for understanding. For students who

work better with images, I having the whole class make a scrapbook with pictures from the story.
As I monitor the picture they are using and what order they put them in, I can tell what they
gained from the story.
PROCEDURES
Introduction/ Lesson Set
I am starting the lesson with the pre-test. While the students are getting logged on to the
computers I will explain what the quiz is about and tell them that it is ok if they do not know
many answers. After the test, I will bring up the power point and tell them that we are going to
hear the story of the first Thanksgiving.
Body & Transitions
The students are used to this type of lesson because they hear a story in the same format as mine
at the beginning of each month. This helps them gain more comprehension skills and serves as an
introduction to what they will be focusing on for the month. So, instead of having the computer
read the story to them, I read it out loud. After each page I asked the students questions about
what they just read. After the story is over I will start the review with the scrapbook activity. I
will have the scrapbook already bound together and the pictures cut out. I will tell them to put
the pictures in the right order to tell the story of the first Thanksgiving. I will start them off by
asking which picture should come first. I will walk around to make sure they are identifying the
right picture. I will continue asking what should come next. When they finish the scrapbook, I
will take them up and ask them to get back on the laptop to start the quiz.
Closure
After the post-test I will thank them for participating and ask them what they liked about the
lesson and ask them what part of the story they liked most. I will then dismiss them for related
arts.
ASSESSMENT
Diagnostic:
I will use Kahoots to test their knowledge of the first Thanksgiving before the lesson.
Formative:
During the lesson I will frequently ask the students questions. I will also use the scrapbook to see
if they understood the sequence of the story. For example, when I ask what should come first in
their scrapbook they should say the Mayflower, not harvesting crops.
Summative:
I will use the same Kahoots game for the post-test.

MATERIALS
SMARTboard
Scrapbook paper
glue
EXTENDED ACTIVITIES
If Student Finishes Early: They will work on festive word searches they already have in their
folders.
If Lesson Finishes Early: Students will go to this website and write down 3 facts they think are
interesting.
If Technology Fails: I will print off my story. For Kahoots, I can type up the questions and
multiple choice answers and print it out for each student to take.
