Test1:Viscosity

INTRODUCTION
Theproblemthatweattemptedtoconquerwiththedesignofthisexperimentisthe
viscosity.Weattemptedtofindthemostperfectandmostaestheticallypleasingviscosityof
shampoofordailyhygieneuses.Weattemptedtofindaviscositythatisnottoorunnynorto
thick.
MATERIALSANDMETHODS
Thematerialsthatweusedtotestthisexperimentwas1bottleofDoveshampoo,1
bottleofAxeshampoo,1bottleofPanteneshampoo,a45degreerampthatsafootlong,anda
stopwatch.Themethodthatweusedtotestourquestionisthatweplacedacertainamountof
eachbrandofshampooontothetopoftherampandtimedwithastopwatchhowlongittookfor
thesubstancetoreachthemidwaypointoftheramp.Alltheamountsplacedontherampswere
thesame.Wethenrecordedtheresultsontoourtable.
RESULTS
Aftertestingtheviscosityofeachofthethreebrands,weconcludedwithwhichoneis
thethinnestandwhichoneisthethickest.Basedofthetimes,theresultsshowedthatPantene
wasthethinnestshampooandAxewasthethickestshampoo.

DISCUSSION
Afterreviewingtheresultsofthetest,ourgrouphadconcludedthatwebelievethatthe
Doveshampooisthebestfitforthestandardpopulationwhenjudgingshampoosbasedoffthe
viscosityofthem.ThereasoningbehindourchoiceisthatthePanteneshampoowassimplytoo
runnyformostanditwaspleasingwhenapplyingtohair.Ontheotherhand,Axewastoothick
ofashampoo,webelieveformostpeople,itmightbeinefficientforusebecauseofthedifficulty
forspreadingit.WebelievethatDovewouldbetheperfectchoicebecauseitwillbefairlyeasy
tospreadonyourheadbutitwon'tbetoorunnytothepointthatitwilldripoffbeforegettinga
chancetolather.


Test2:Foaminess

INTRODUCTION
Theproblemthatweattemptedtoresolveinthecreationofthistestwastodetermine
whichshampooinconsiderationwasthebestchoicejudgingstrictlyonthefoaminessofit.We
wanttofindthebestfitforabroadselectionofconsumersthatusetheproductdaily.Selective
factorsarenotintoconsiderationwhenconductingthisexperiment.
MATERIALSANDMETHODS
ThematerialsthatwereincludingintheprocedureofthisexperimentareabottleofDove
shampoo,abottleofAxeshampoo,abottleofPanteneshampoo,3500mLbeakers,a50mL
graduatedcylinder,ruler,andastirrod.Theprocedurewasthatwewouldhavethesame
amountofwaterineachbeaker.Thenwewouldaddathesameamountofeachshampooina
differentbeaker,thenwewouldstirtheshampoointothewaterforabout10seconds.Witha
rulerthenwewouldmeasuretheheightofthebubblegrowthineachbeakerandrecordour
results.Wedidthissameexperimenton3differenttrials,eachtrialwithadifferentconcentration
ofeachsubstance.Werecordedourresultsforthosetrialsalso.
RESULTS
TheresultsofthisexperimentprovedthattheDoveMensCareshampooisthefoamiest
outofallthe3differentbrandsofshampootestedon.Comparingtheresultsfromthethirdtrial
recorded,Dovecreatefoam10mmhigh.Thesecondfoamiestoutofthe3resultedtobethe
Panteneshampoo.Pantenerecordafoam6mmhighonthethird.Theshampoothatwasthe
leastfoamiestistheAxeshampoo.Axecreatedafoamthatrose5mmhighonthethirdtrialof
testing.

DISCUSSION
ThesestatisticsmeanthatthebestchoiceforpeopleisDoveofyourlookingforstrictly
thefoaminessoftheproduct.Ourreasoningbehindourchoiceisthatmostpeopleusuallyliketo
haveareallyfoamyshampoosowebelievedthattheDoveshampooisthebestchoice.Wedid
notconsiderotherfactorsformtheshampoosuchassafetyinthisdecision.

Test#3:StickinessAbility

INTRODUCTION
Theproblemthatweattemptedtoconquerwiththedesignofthisexperimentisthe
stickiness.weputtwopiecesofpapertogetherwithagluemadeofshampoowiththreedifferent
typesofshampooaxe,dove,pantene.Thenwetestedtoseewhichshampoolastedthelongest
asaglue.

lineacrossthemiddleofthepaper,step3:takeanotherpieceofprinterpaperthesamesizeas
thefirst,step4:linethepaperparalleltothefirst,step5:stickthetopofthepaperonthelineof
shampoo,step6:holdthefirstpaperbythecornersintheair,step7:recordtimeittakesfor
secondpapertopartwithfirstpaper,step8:repeatwithotherchoicesofshampoo(The
shampoowiththelongesttimeholdsthemoststickiness,andtheshampoowiththeshortest
timeistheleaststicky),step9:compareandcontrastdata.
RESULTS
Aftertestingthestickinessofeachofthethreebrands,weconcludedwithwhichoneis
thestickiest.Basedofthetimes,theresultsshowedthatAxewasthestickiestshampooand
thatdovewastheleaststicky.Axedidn'tmoveafter2daysinclasswehadtotakeitdown
noneofthemactuallycameapartbutsomepaperssliddownmorethanotherssotheywere
closertocomingapartbutnoneofthemactuallydidcomeapart.

DISCUSSION
Afterconductingthisexperimentwehaveconcludedthatifyouwantastickshampoogo
withaxe.ButifyouwantashampoothatisnotverystickthengowithDove.SoformeIwould
useDovebecasueIdontlikeitwhenmyshampooisstickyandwithdoveitistheleaststickyI
wouldneverthinkaboutaxebecausethestickynessshowwaslikeagluetypesubstance.But
everyoneisdifferentbutifIwastorecommendoneIwouldrecommendDoveoutoftheother
threeIthinkDoveisthebestone.

Test4:Fragrance

INTRODUCTION
Duringourtimewerealizedthatwhatwewantinashampooisanexcellentsmell.
Althoughtherearedifferentvariationsofsmellsanduniquefragrances,wewantedtoseewhich
onewasthemostappealingandmorefavorableamongcustomers.Wefiguredthatthemore
favorableshampoowouldmostlikelybeboughtbycustomers.Wethenaskedthequestion:
Whichshampoowouldsmellthebest?
MATERIALSANDMETHODS
Forourexperimentweusedourchoiceofthreedifferentshampoosandtendifferent
individuals.Foreachonewedecidedtoletthemsmelloneallthreeoftheshampoosandrate
theirfavoritetoleastfavorite(13).TheshampoosweusedwereAxe,Dove,andPantene.After
goingaroundandaskingtendifferentindividuals,wepostedourresultsbelow.

Afterlookingatourdata,wefoundthatpantenewasthemostfavorableshampoo,having
amodeof1(1=mostfavorable).
DISCUSSION
Thismeansthatthisproductwillbelikelytosellmorebecauseofhowfavoredthesmell
isamongpeopleingeneral.ThesecondmostfavorablesmellingshampoowasDovewitha
modeof2.Theleastfavorablechoicewasaxewithamodeof3.Whenitcomestoacustomer's
choice,thecustomerchoosesashampoothatwillgivethemafragranceappealingtothemand
others.Sointermsofthephysicalsenses,Panteneisthegreatestchoice.

Test5:MoisturizingFactor
INTRODUCTION
Formoisturizingfactorwewantedtounderstandwhichshampoowasabletopenetrate
theskinmoreandbemoreeffectiveatdiggingdownallthewaypastthehairtothescalp.We
decidedthatashampoowithareallyeffectivemoisturizingabilitywasmorefavorable,beingable
toaffectallregionsofthehairaswellasthehumanscalpwhereitsnutrientscanalsospreadto
theskin.Wewantedashampoothatwasabletohaveaextremelywellmoisturizingfactor.
MATERIALSANDMETHODS
Wedecidedtotestmoisturizationbyconductinganexperiment.Thisexperimentwasto
testhowwelleachshampoocouldflowdeepdownpastthehairaswellashowfaritcould
penetratethescalp.Thematerialsusedinthisexperimentwere:three50mlbeakers,many
tissues,aruler,andourchoiceofthreedifferentshampoos.Wedenselypackedeachbeaker
withtissuesthen,pouredourchoiceofshampoointoeachbeaker.Threedifferentshampoosin
threedifferentbeakers.Afterthatwehadwaitedanequaltimeforeachshampootosettleinthe
beaker,thenmeasurehowfareachshampootraveledfromthefarthestpoint.Thenfromlooking
attheresults,decidewhichshampoohasthegreatestmoisturizingabilitybasedonhowdeepa
shampootraveledthroughthedenselypackedtissuesinthebeaker.
RESULTS
Wehadfoundoutthatrelativelythisexperimentmayhavemadesense,butmaynotbe
themostappropriateexperimenttotestthemoisturizingfactorofshampoo.Althoughwhenit
cametodataandfindingoutwhichshampooisbestinthiscategory(basedonthisexperiment),
weusedourdatatojudge.

DISCUSSION

Basedonourdataandthisexperiment,thismeansthatAxepenetratedthemostandis
probablytheshampoowiththegreatestmoisturizingability.Wemayneedmoreaccuratetesting
tofindout.Whatweknowfromthisisthatwhenlayeredwithtissues,Axewasknownto
penetrateveryfar,andthismayalsorelatetotheviscosityexperimentaswell.Axewasknown
tohavetheleastviscosity,thusbeingabletomovequickerandperhapsspreadingfasteras
well.Thesecharacteristicshelpespeciallywhentryingtoflowthroughadensecylinderof
tissues.
