Position Summary, This position will have two primary roles to coordinate and implement the MChigeeng First Nation (MFN)s
Communications initiatives and MFNs 10-Year Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) focusing on community engagement; some
responsibilities will be to plan, develop, implement, monitor and evaluate all of MFNs communications strategic planning and its ten
year CCP initiative ensuring the inclusion of all stakeholders and target audiences feedback and involvement.
Reporting Relationship, Will report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, work collaboratively with senior management and the
steering committee during the planning, development and implementation stages of the communications and CCP initiatives resulting
from the MFN community feedback.
Essential Functions
Planning & Administration
Engage community membership, partners and stakeholders in the awareness, promotion and delivery of programs and services
for the MFN band membership; including the development of the CCP through to its implementation and evaluation
Act as liaison for community band membership, C&C, committees, senior management and external partners throughout the
processes and to campaign support and awareness of the communications and CCP initiatives
Develop a long-term work plan and annual work plans for the Communications and CCP that includes community focus group
sessions/meetings, including existing budget, timelines and anticipated results/outcomes
Create goals and set measurable outcomes based on the MFN organization and Chief & Council goals and objectives
Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP)
The CCP is a community directed initiative outlining a framework with procedures and activities required for on & off community
consultations to include communications, decision making
Conduct a critical document file review of the existing CCP information pointing barriers and recommendations in order
understand for planning and development work
Conduct a document file review of the existing MFNs Community Safety Plan information in order to incorporate in the CCP
Communications
Complete a thorough review of MFNs current communications planning and development work
Create, implement and evaluate communications strategies and plans that align with the organizations strategic plan
Ensure Anishnabek culture and language is incorporated as vital components into all aspects of internal & external
communication documentation/correspondence including the CCP development
Develop strong working relationships with key community stakeholders i.e., elders, youth, leaders, etc.
Department & Steering Committee Support & Reporting
Work with external consultants, committee and senior management to guide the direction of the CCP
Coordinates and facilitates workplace meetings, focus groups, etc. for on & off community band membership and completes
analysis and submits report findings to be incorporated into the CCP and communicated back to the community
Assist the CCP Steering Committee in building capacity/training plan for key strategies of the CCP; and provide organizational
support and coordination for key deliverables of the CCP
Website & Media Relations & Marketing
Work with IT Coordinator and IT Support website content ensure all MFN departments and organization is well represented
Ensure pertinent information is communicated in a timely manner to on/off reserve band members
To oversee and prepare and edit content of all information and media material for internal and public audiences
Attend activities that create awareness for the CCP and represent the community at all internal and external events
Monitor the effectiveness of the website and revise as required

Qualifications & Requirements
Preferred:
University Degree or higher education in Communications, Public or Media Relations, Journalism, Social Sciences, Community
Development or related disciplines and five (5) years direct community development & community engagement experience
Superior evaluation, outcomes and tracking skills ensuring deliverables are met and reported
Demonstrated knowledge and application of methodologies related to social media would be an asset
Minimum:
University Degree in Communications, Public or Media Relations, Journalism, Social Sciences Community Development or
related disciplines and three (3) work related experience.
Minimum knowledge and skills:
Superior writing and oral communication skills; presentation skills; and excellent interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher; design/document layout experience (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign)
Basic HTML and CSS knowledge preferred
Demonstrated knowledge and application of methodologies related to social media would be an asset
Understanding and knowledge of stakeholder and community concerns
Able to work independently and represent the First Nation at external events, meetings, etc.
Attention to detail and strong project management skills, able to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, stressful at times
Flexible to work irregular hours when required
Experience researching information for accuracy; strong organizational and analytical skills
Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
Knowledge of Anishnabek culture, traditions and practices; understanding and fluency in Anishinabemowin or willingness to learn
are strong assets
Valid Ontario Drivers License; able to travel and have own transportation
CRC requirement must be thirty (30) days current original or certified copy
Criminal Reference Check (CRC) Rationale: MChigeeng First Nation is in a position of trust to its band members and is committed
to providing a safe and secure work environment. Applicants must have record clear and/or dated of convictions relating to fraud,
drugs, assault and theft. The CRC must be current (30 days) and must be an Original.
It is mandatory for successful candidates to submit a current (30 days) CRC; offer of employment will be subject to receipt of
a satisfactory record.
