January:

During the month of January we formally began the process of beginning the Personal Project.
The idea of the Personal Project was introduced through a series of activities that allowed us to
develop the inquiry method that would be used during the duration of our project. I chose my
Global Context, Orientation in Space and Time, due to the fact that the basis of my project was
largely surrounded around the idea of an aspect of civilization, in this case technology, and the
effect it has across different cultures and humanities.
February:
During the first two weeks of the month of February, I expanded upon my topic selection and
refined the basis of what would become my research. In this time I chose to reflect upon a certain
effect that technology had on humanities, in this case the standards of human living. I spoke with
my supervisor who approved of my topic as well as my connection to the Global Context I
selected, who further suggested that I refined my research due to the large responsibility that
would have to be taken on. In the second week of February we officially chose our inquiry
question. After preliminary research, the official question that compiled all of the aspects that I
would research over the next several months was crafted. The question, To what extent does
technology affect the standards of human living?, would focus on how technology affects the
standards of human living, why it affects them, and in what ways can it be connected with the
development of these standards. These three questions would serve as the basis of my research
investigation over the next several months and will be further developed and modified as the
research progresses. Winter Break occurred during the third week of February. As I was on
vacation, I did not work on the Personal Project during this time period. When I returned to
school the following week, I met with my supervisor, I finalized the preliminary research relating
to my Personal Project, made it official with supervisor and constructed a timeline that would
serve as a guide on how to work on the project in a timely manner.
March:
The focus of research for the month of March: What are poverty and technology and in what
ways are they defined? In the first week of March I decide what I would utilize as my
finalized Project. As I was familiar with Weebly and how it worked, I decided to put all of my
research into a website with my findings, my research, and the conclusions that I drew during
this research phase. During the first week I begun general research, primarily what technology
and poverty was and means to define them. For the rest of March I researched different means of
poverty and methods to define them. I researched dozens of different indicators and selected the
ones that I would use to make connections in my research. Every source was cross analyzed with
a multitude of sources before being determined if it was a credible source that could be used in
the final outcome of my project. Toward the end of March I began investigating different modes

of multimedia that I would use in my project to make its findings more understandable and
interesting to the audience that would be looking at my Personal Project.
April:
The focus of research for the month of April: What connections between technology and
living standards can be made? In the first week of April I focused on the development of
technology with concentrations in the 20th and the 21st Centuries. I looked at how it developed
in different regions and researched what factors affected the development of these technologies.
This research furthered into the second week of April, in which the difference of technological
outputs between First, Second, and Third World countries were investigated to prove or disprove
the prior connections that I had made. The third week extended this research while the fourth
week focused on wealth distribution and the effect that technology had on it.
May:
The focus of research for the month of May: What effects does technology have on culture,
and how is this connected to how humanities develop? The focus for the beginning of May
was that of culture. Here I investigated common cultural values that were shared among
countries of similar economic and technological standpoints, and compared them to countries
that were significantly different. An unanticipated aspect was discovered during this time, which
is that while culture does affect how technology is research and developed; however, the largest
determining factor of technological output was that countries who historically were technological
innovators would continue to do so, while those who struggled would continue to do so, despite
outlying indicators. In the third week of May all of my data was cross analyzed one final time
before being finalized and in the fourth week of May I began designing the Weebly page.
June:
All research was finalized after having a meeting with my supervisor. I created a synopsis of my
findings and presented them to the history department who gave suggestions on how I should
present my data. During the second week of June I completed my Website and during the third
week I finalized all of my work during my Freshman year and handed them over to those who
would supervise my Projects continuation in the fall. At this stage my Personal Project Project
report has not been completed, nor has the format of the Process Journals been finalized.

July:
No continuation of the project was done.

August:
No continuation of the project was done.
September:
No continuation of the project was done.
October:
The Project Report is in its brainstorming stage. The exhibition has been set back until March,
which caused delays in the continuation of the project.
November:
All of the information collected during Freshman year was reviewed. Samples of the Personal
Project Report were passed out. Information regarding the exhibition was conveyed and the
brainstorming of the project continued.
December:
Following another meeting with the supervisor, I began creating a rough draft of my Project
Report and everything on my website was updated.
January:
The rough draft of my Project Report was finished. Revisions and edits were made.
Brainstorming of the visual display begins at the end of January.
February:
The Project Report was completed during the third week of February. Supplies for the visual
display were purchased.

March:
The visual display will be finished. All work will be turned in and the exhibition will be
conducted.
