Short-term objective #

Action What does the student need to do?

By the end of February, I will have re-obtained my position as server and team lead for Summer
2015 at the restaurant/bar.

Context Where or when does the student need to do this action?

I will speak to Mike Mawhinney, General Manager of the restaurant to renegotiate my position for the
upcoming season.

Terms What are the indications that will show the student achieved this objective?
I will officially hold my position at the restaurant for the upcoming season. I will prove this through
having a copy of my signed contract. The position must be successfully re-obtained each summer,
as this is a seasonal restaurant, and jobs are re-awarded based on performance and attitude.

HOW?
How will we collect the data to show student achievement of this objective?
1. Speak to Mike.
2. Have a meeting to renegotiate my position for the upcoming summer.
3. Sign and produce my contract for Summer 2015.

By the end of August, I will have received a nomination for Taste of Nova Scotias Server of the Year.

Short-term objective # 2

Action What does the student need to do?

By May 22nd (Victoria Day Weekend), the restaurant will be re-opened for the season and I will
have returned home and will be working at least 7 shifts per week, totalling at least 55 hours or
more.

Context Where or when does the student need to do this action?

Following May graduation, I will move home and prepare myself for the two weeks leading up to the
season opening by completing the pre-season work and training to get myself up to speed and
ready to immediately be given the priority hours.

Terms What are the indications that will show the student achieved this objective?
I will have successfully reobtained my position, will have moved home, and will have successfully
completed pre-season training and will have trained the members of my team and completed their
orientation for the season. In doing this, I will be eligible to work the hours and shifts which I
require. I will be able to produce slips showing hours worked each day from Aloha POS system.

HOW?
How will we collect the data to show student achievement of this objective?
1. I will have successfully completed pre-season training.
2. I will have studied product knowledge with Martha to be ready to answer questions for our team
and for our guests.
3. Doing this will show management that I am ready to work and am up to speed immediately, putting
me on the schedule. I will then be able to document hours worked from Aloha POS slips.

positive service to guests at the restaurant/bar.

Context Where or when does the student need to do this action?

I will need to be very conscientious in providing positive and exceptional service each shift, and
ensure that I create a memorable experience for my guests. In doing so, this will encourage
management to sign off on my nomination.

Terms What are the indications that will show the student achieved this objective?
I will be able to read guests comments, as well as receive verbal feedback from them on the service
they received. Management will also be aware of this feedback.

How will we collect the data to show student achievement of this objective?
1. I will be able to read these reviews online.
2. Management will be able to read these reviews online or through email.
