Deepen our understanding of the LGBTQ leadership development landscape in
our region.

IdenDfy individual, interpersonal, and insDtuDonal structures that support or

impede social jusDce.


Expand and apply knowledge and understanding of concepts, theories, and
frameworks relevant to social jusDce, oppression/injusDce and alliance/
advocacy.

Develop our capacity to deliver high quality leadership development programs


for an expanded demographic, with inten(onal focus on marginalized
iden((es.

CriDcally analyze a range of social jusDce issues including those relevant to the

foundaDons of educaDon, democracy, and ones own profession.


Develop and rene human relaDons skillsincluding leadership, communicaDon,
collaboraDon, conict resoluDon, and cross-cultural skillsfor eecDvely
addressing social jusDce issues.

Met with Pride FoundaDon team to determine needs and goals/
outcomes of project

previous research on leadership development programs

Divided region and began research of leadership development

workshops and training opportuniDes in each state


Met with Gunner to receive feedback, direcDon for conDnued
research, and guidance for nal presentaDon to board

Leadership Program Recommendations


AORTA (AnD-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance)
Specializes in facilitaDng group intersecDonal workshops around issues

of social jusDce and liberaDon.


Workshops with the goal of strengthening social jusDce movements

Examine systems of power, privilege, and oppression and how they operate

on individual, insDtuDonal, and cultural levels.


Work to expand capacity of cooperaDve, collecDve, and community based

projects through educaDon, training, and organizaDonal planning

Chosen because the organizaDon uses an intersecDonal approach in

their work to uproot all systems of oppression.

Online plaform allows for uniformity in training across regions, giving the Pride

FoundaDons up and coming LGBTQ leaders a universal experience.

We recommend this opDon because it would allow the Pride

FoundaDon to choose from a variety of online training modules and


implement them in a customized Dmeframe.
Would allow Pride FoundaDon to oer training based on the needs of
their regional leaders and volunteers.

whose bodies are deemed unnatural


Ageism
The discriminaDon of elders because they are stereotyped
as being "senile, rigid in thought and manner, old fashion
in morality and skills.

Lack of recogniDon for elders that idenDfy as LGBTQ

are disregarded for their eorts in equality and


understanding.

LGBTQ is perceived as a young persons community

that excludes older generaDons.

Classism
Prejudice against or in favor of people belonging to a
parDcular social class.

As LGBTQ idenDDes become more accepted in mainstream

society, class begins to play a role within the community.


When ghDng for equality, the unequal playing elds of
socio-economic status and access didnt seem to ma[er so
much, but now that the ght seems to have died down, class
lines have become more visible within the community. This is
a signicant issue that Pride FoundaDon volunteers should be
aware of and work to alleviate.

Linguicism
DiscriminaDon based parDcularly on language, Ded to
discriminaDon based on race, ethnicity, and class.

By not living up to normaDve masculine standards of daDng

women, gay men are emasculated and seen as less than


men.

A sexist hierarchy exists in the LGBTQ community that reects

larger society. That is, white gay men are epitomized.

As a result, femininity is devalued. This is apparent in venues

such as gay bars that discriminate against women.

DiscriminaDon against individuals that do not play into the

strict masculine/feminine binary exists in the gay community.


Those who do not fall into a clearly masculine or feminine
category are sDgmaDzed.

Propose Board PresentaDon




Upon compleDon of the Academic Service Learning Project, we will present our research
to the Pride FoundaDons Board of Directors and Sta. Our extensive research will
provide the Pride FoundaDon with leadership development opportuniDes for their
community organizers located in ve states in the Pacic Northwest region.
AddiDonally, the Pride FoundaDon will receive a web-based training aimed at educaDng
community acDvists, organizers, and volunteers on the importance of intersecDonality
in LGBTQ work.
