6th Grade Database Lesson

Introduction:
Students will work in groups of five to create a database using MS Access. The group will decide what to
track in their database and then decide how they will give each item a unique identifier. Teacher will
demonstrate how to use a blank database to create IDs and enter information into a table.

Common Core Standard:


CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.8: Find probabilities of compound events using organized lists, tables, tree
diagrams, and simulation.

Objectives:
Students will create unique identifiers for lists of items to track
Students will establish categories for each item
Students will collaborate with their group to create their table of items
Students will present their database
Students will try out queries related to their table
