The documentary " The Partition of India" is based on the story of the partitioning of the Indian Subcontinent. It tells us the story of all the violence that occurred and exactly how the idea of a separate Muslim state came to be and then implemented. The interviews showed the realistic side of the partition.

The BBC documentary The Partition of India has the
purpose of conveying the true story behind the partition. They are trying to portray a realistic image of what actually happened during the partition and how it came to be. They are trying to tell us the full story. Before watching this documentary I did know about this topic. I was studying it in school and I did have information on it. I expected to see the complete story f Indias partition. What circumstances caused it and the people who played a major role in it. I also expected to see all the violence that occurred at the time. Before watching the documentary some questions that I had on the subject were that what role did the British play in all this? Was any other Muslim leader other than Jinnah as active was he was in this process? What was the main reason for the British to agree to partitioning India? The documentary The Partition of India is based on the story of the partitioning of the Indian Subcontinent. It tells us the story of all the violence that occurred and exactly how the idea of a separate Muslim state came to be and then implemented. It ells us what happened during the time of partition. Some main evens of the time were the Lahore resolution, the Calcutta Killings, The arrival of Lord Mountbatten as a Viceroy, the speeches, and meeting of political leaders at the time, and the rising tensions between Hindus and Muslims. It was made mostly in India and Pakistan, which was the actual place of these events so it made it more realistic I think that the interviews showed the realistic side of the partition. It provided a more detailed and personalized aspect of the violence. In documentaries, it is important to have interviews because the people who go through a certain trauma are the only one who can precisely explain it. For example in one of the interviews, the interviewee, an old Sikh, who shared his story about raiding and killing Muslims. He said, My sword used to be magnificent, it made me popular. Our people used to shout, Be Strong when we would raid them here he stated the war like condition during the partition and how people fought against each other which lead to so much life loss. The people interviewed also gave personal accounts on the political figures, which gave insights on their personal lives. Therefore for a documentary, interviews increase the credibility and also connect to he audience on a personal level. The part I liked most was the interviews because they gave me personal insights on the events that occurred. What I didnt like was that there were too many Indian opinions as compared to Pakistani opinions that lead to a biased coverage of this issue. Being biased increased chances of facts being distorted and manipulated. I
