REFLECTION / COMMENTS Discipline Discipline is a combined effort working with students, administration, teachers,
parents and support staff. Daily collaboration is essential in follow-through and
consistency. I am finding that many of our elementary teachers prefer to handle
discipline themselves. Major behaviors and teachers that appear to lack effective
classroom management skills access administration much more in dealing with
problem behaviors.

Home Visits Collaboration with the Home-to-School Coordinator and principal assisted in
identifying families in need of greater support for attendance, behavior and
academic issues. Home visits proved to be very positive and opened up
conversations with the parents that otherwise would not have occurred. There are
many factors that affect a parents ability to assist their child/ren, sometimes to a
point that it becomes a never ending cycle. One parent in particular was struggling
with serious health conditions and severe behaviors from her elementary child.
Once in conversation she was pleased that the school was reaching out to her and
welcomed any assistance. The home visit proved very important as the Home-toSchool Coordinator and myself were able to help devise a behavior management
plan that gave the child incentives to get to school on time in the morning. Followthrough with the teacher and parent will be important in order to know if the plan is
effective. Additional community support information was given to the parent in
hopes of assisting the family with their many needs.
Testing Accommodation Schedule The building of Belfasts testing accommodation schedule for grades 3-8 testing has
always been seen as a challenge. Administration had identified many areas in need
of improvement in the process and administration of the tests. Working with the
Guidance Counselor on her process is a first step in understanding the areas of need
in building a more effective system.
