The BSE Index started on 31-3-1979 at 100 points and on 31-3-2008 closed at 15644
points. Column two shows the closing value of the Sensex on 31st March each year.
Column 3 shows the gain/loss to any person who bought the Sensex in one year and sold
it 1 year later (holding period 1 year). Column 4 shows the results after holding the
investment for 3 years, Column 5 (holding period 5 years) and so on. The last column
shows the results if someone bought the Sensex in one year and held on for 15 years.
