Tornadoes

By Lillian Madhan
1,819 of these were detected in 1998. These cause 7-398 deaths
each year According to ready.gov. These are one of natures most violent
storms. Tornadoes cause an average of 300 deaths each year, as well as 8
to 50 billion dollars in repair costs. Tornadoes are very destructive. In this
essay you will learn how tornadoes are formed, how they destroy life, and
how to prepare for them.
Tornadoes are a mix of warm air and cold air formed into a rotating
cloud, with a width of 1 to 50 miles and a distance of 300 miles per hour.
They first form as funnel clouds, also tornadoes have 4 signs to look at,
beavers tail, inflow bands, wall clouds, and funnel clouds. Beavers tail is a
smooth, flat cloud band extending from the eastern edge. Inflow bands are
ragged bands of low cumulus clouds extending from the main storm tower.
Wall clouds are an isolated cloud lowering attached to the rain-free base of
a thunderstorm. A Funnel cloud is a tornado waiting to touch the ground.
In the week of April 25, 2011, 358 tornadoes ripped through 7 states,
Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and
Tennessee, causing 358 deaths. This was a very hard time for the familes
who witnessed the tornado. There homes were shred to pieces and they
didnt know where to go. Tornadoes kill livestock, and people, and destroy
homes.
A estimated cost of a mile wide tornado is 8 billion dollars. The
government is trying there best to pay tornado costs. In the year 1998, the
government paid over than 67 billion dollars in tornado costs. Tornadoes
damage are one of the most costliest disasters in U.S History. For example,
the Moore Tornado in Oklahoma costed about 150 billion.
To prepare for a tornado , first listen to hear the Outdoor Warning
System. The first alarm means, that the weather is suited for a tornado and
keep watch. The second alarm, means that a funnel cloud has formed and
get to safety. The third alarm, means that the funnel cloud has touched the
ground, which means it is now a tornado. If a tornado is coming your way,
make sure your safe room has no windows are openings to the outdoors.
Also, make sure the room is strong enough to resist overturning and

uplifting. The recommended places to hide during a tornado is a basement,

storm shelter, or an interior room on the first floor.
As you can see, tornadoes are one of nature's most violent storms.
The cost a sufficient amount of money, they destroy everything in there
path, and are huge. Tornadoes cause many deaths per year. Have you
ever witnessed a tornado? Just keep in mind, Why are tornadoes so
destructive?
