Section 3: Integrating Instructional Technology

In this new age of technology it seems as though everything one does in life can be done with
the touch of screen on a Smartphone or a key stroke on a laptop, from ordering food to
navigating your way to your desired location. It has even gotten to a point where touch is not
necessary an individual can simply just talk to Siri on their Iphone and she will do the search for
them. With the advancing of technology it is important to keep up to pace with its advances as a
teacher in order to keep students interested, prepare them for their future use of it, and embrace
the change because after all it is supposed to be the betterment of society. The integration of
technology in the classroom having more good than bad qualities is an important concept that
teachers must consider, along with the benefits of a wireless classroom.
The pros of using technology to facilitate and enhance instruction in the classroom as a
future teacher would be because of its accessibility, how it relates to the students of this
generation and those to come, addition to the world of an interactive classroom. As stated in the
article titled, Effects of Flipped Classroom based on Smart Learning on Self-directed and
Collaborative Learning In the flipped learning-type class, students can internalize knowledge as
they are to preview the basic related ideas outside the school via videos and conduct diverse inclass activities such as discussion, collaboration, quiz, project, etc. Students can change tacit
knowledge into explicit knowledge through peer instruction.Technology infusion into the

classroom allows teaches to utilize the new teaching technique called a flipped classroom, which
is the technology instruction method where a teacher records themselves teaching a lesson on
video and assigns it to their students to watch as homework and the reviews and answers
question on the subject the next day instilling the topic into the students allowing the class to stay
on track with what needs to be learn by the end of the semester all the while allowing time for
students to spend more time on things they do not understand as fast. Thus becoming the
education technique of that could possibly become the new way to effective teach a subject, but
only time will tell.
Like everything in life technology integration into the classroom has its cons or
shortcomings, these include things such as unreliability, human isolation, and the fact that a few
students may not have technology at home. Not only all that but there is also the fact that not all
teachers are tech savvy and or use it when it is appropriate to use it rather than unneeded
distraction (Sang-Hong, Nam-Hun, & Kil-Hong, 2014). There will always be these things to
worry about it but the best thing to do is go with the flow of society and equal technology based
lessons with hands on non-technological based lesson to keep student collaborative and social.
There are two types of technology based classrooms today, wired and wireless. A wired
classroom is a classroom in which the class is connected to the internet. A wireless classroom is
when a class uses portable devices such as laptops or ipads for activities, tests, and other
contributions to a lesson. The difference between a wired and wireless classroom is that wireless
classrooms make the lesson more mobile and accessible for longer periods of time, but yet wired
classrooms have the capability of saving more information (Wired vs. Wireless,1999). Wired
classroom are more stationary and in my opinion are only useful for those school whom cannot
afford to go wireless. As the article, Wired vs. Wireless Classrooms, written in 1999 predicted it

is now a lot more popular for schools to have wireless devices capable for students to connect to
the internet to than there are computer labs, now they are carts.
As technology advance it is of the utmost importance that we as teachers keep up to date
with the advancing technological society, Teachers can do these by constantly learning and
integrating technology in their classroom. Making certain that the technology is facilitating and
enhancing the lesson rather than becoming an ineffective and useless addition to the lesson. After
all technology does allow our lesson to be more accessible, flexible and relates well with a
generation of students that have grown up in and will continue to live in.
