InGatewaytoTechnologywehavestartedlearningaboutGeocaching.Ifyouare
unfamiliarwiththegame,geocachingisaworldwideadventureoffindinghiddentreasure(or
caches).Ageocachercanplaceageocacheintheworld,pinpointitslocationusingGPS
technologyandthensharethecachesexistenceandlocationonline.
Bytheendofthisunit,studentswillhavecreatedtheirowngeocachethattheywill
hidesomewhereontheschoolcampus,identifytheGPScoordinates,andandfindanother
studentscache.TheywilllearnetiquetteofGeocachingandtheprocessofcreating,hiding,
andfindingcaches.Whenfinishedwiththisunit,theywillhavetheknowledgeandskillstodo
thisfunandenrichingactivitywithfamily.
Studentswillbeusingtheengineeringdesignprocesstodesignandcreateacacheto
useinclass.Thiscouldbesomethingthatisconstructedathome,orsimplyasmall
tupperwarecontainer.*Ifyouaskyourstudentabouthisdesignandhelphimorherto
construct,itwouldhelpusgetthisprojectgoing.Pleaseaskthemtosharewithyouthe
physicalrequirementsofcachecontainer(wehavetalkedaboutthisinclass).Theyhavethe
optiontopreparetheirbasiccontainerathomeandwewilladdcamouflageinclass,orthey
canbringthematerialstoclassandconstructithere(iftheydonotneedtoolsfoundat
