Drivers Education Disclosure Document

Textbook: Drive Right, and the Utah Driver Handbook

Course Description: The Drivers Education course consists of 30 hours of in class instrucction and 14 hours
of driving time (behind the wheel). The State Written Exam (as review) and the State Road Exam are also
given; all requirements for the Drivers License are included in the scope of the class. Students are required to
meet state minimum requirements in order to qualify for a drivers License.

Classroom Requirements to Pass:
1. Student must attend all classes to attain the 30 hour state requirement for classroom instruction.
2. All State Handbook and Drive Right Assignments completed
3. Complete the Lab Experience Packet (Blue Packet)
4. Grading
a. Students must complete all work with a minimum 80% (B-)
b. Grade Scale:
100% - 93% .. A
86% - 83% .. B
76% - 73% .. C
66% - 63% .. D
92% - 90% ..... A-
82% - 80% .. B-
72% - 70% .. C-
62% - 60% .. D-
89% - 87% .. B+
79% - 77% .. C+
69% - 67% .. D+
59% - 0% .. F

c. Students who pass the class with 60% - 79% will still receive credit for the class but will not
qualify to receive a drivers license.
5. Pre-Range / Observation Attendance: All students are required to attend one night to observe all the
maneuvers and skills that happen on the range.
6. Range: All students are required to attend 4 consecutive nights on the range. At the range students
will practice required maneuvers and drillsin order to sharpen their driving skills, and prepare them to
drive with an instructor on the road.
7. Road Driving: After completing the range driving, all students will be assigned a road instructor.
During the road driving the students will parctice all rules and driving situations in order to pass the
Utah State Driving Exammination. The Road Driving test meets the requirements of the road test as
outlined by the state of Utah.
8. To avoid the possibility of cheating, no tests or papers will be returned to the students.

Drivers License Requirements:
1. Students must have a learners permit for 6 months.
2. Students must pass an approved drivers education course with an 80%/B- average.
3. Students must complete a minumum of 4 hours driving time under the supervision of a licensed driving
instructor.
4. Students must complete 40 hours of practice time with their learners permit. 10 hours of the driving
must be completed in during the night hours, in the dark. (The 6 hours of driving with the driving
instructor may be counted towards the 40 total hours)
5. Students must be at least 16 years old.
6. Students must pass the State Road Exam.
