FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dow Ups Ante in Support of Future Advanced Manufacturing

Companys Community Advisory Committees Partner with Educational Organizations to Fund STEMLearning, Build for Future Innovations

Philadelphia, PA November 13, 2014 The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) is pleased to
announce that it will award a total of $90,000 in grants to support innovative and impactful initiatives
designed to prepare the next generation of innovators in science, technology, engineering and math
(STEM). The company is awarding these grants in conjunction with its Community Advisory Committees
(CAC) in Bristol, Pa., Newark, De., and Spring House, Pa.,
Currently, U.S. manufacturing faces a shortage of employees with STEM skills as 600,000 manufacturing
jobs go unfilled due to lack of qualified candidates. According to the Presidents Council of Advisors on
Science and Technology (PCAST), the U.S. will need to increase the number of students graduating in
STEM fields by 34 percent in order to keep up with economic demand. By 2015, the U.S. will need 400,000
new graduates in STEM fields. Recognizing this gap, Dow has collaborated with its CACs in the Delaware
Valley on STEM initiatives to help develop strong, cooperative partnerships between government,
academia and industry to work toward a sustainable, diversified economy.
Community Advisory Committees serve as a link between Dows manufacturing sites, building cooperation
amongst its neighboring communities. Through a two-way dialogue, CACs are able to comment on Dows
operations and activities, while creating a mechanism for Dow representatives to provide information,
obtain feedback, and learn about community concerns. CACs have played an integral role in helping the
Company identify regional challenges blight, poverty, or barriers leading to underrepresentation in the
sciences as well as to promote large-scale initiatives, such as increasing youth interest in STEM subjects
and thus building a pipeline of professionals with advanced manufacturing workforce skills.

The organizations receiving 2014 CAC Grants include:

Bristol Borough School District, awarded by the Bristol Community Advisory Council. As
educators, the Bristol Borough School District aims to prepare its students for a competitive global
workforce through STEM education initiatives. The CAC grant will support the Young
Environmental Engineers of Bristol Borough Program, which will consist of three components:
STEM curriculum integration, an after school STEM enrichment program and field experiences.
The goal of the program is to expose students to a large array of STEM-related topics to end the
growing skills gap and prepare students for the job market of the 21st Century. The CAC grant will
help provide a variety of opportunities for the students of Bristol Borough that are difficult for the
district to provide without the necessary funding. The program will aim to serve approximately 300
Bristol Middle School students from ages 10-14.

Latin American Community Center, awarded by the Newark Community Advisory Council. With a
mission of advocating for and assisting the Latino community through empowerment services that
celebrate the Latino culture, the LACC serves over 13,000 individuals annually and has done so for
45 years. The LACC will maintain the Youth STEM Program with the CAC grant, which will teach
over 100 children from grade K-5 the principles and concepts of STEM-based learning with hopes
of youth entering a STEM-based field of study/employment. The Youth STEM Program will
interrelate with the Digital Literacy, Lego Mindstorms, Mad Science and Technology and Filmmaking programs.

North Penn School District, awarded by the Spring House Community Advisory Council.
Providing an effective, innovative, student-focused community of teaching and learning for 12,700
students, the North Penn School District will use the CAC grant for a program within its Engineering
Academy, The Future is NEAR (Nanotechnology, Education & Research). The program is
designed to introduce students to nanotechnology, materials science, engineering and the
engineering design process. The already established NEAR program has reached the limitation of
its capabilities with current resources. Therefore, to sustain the next 10+ years of student
exploration and research, the program needs additional resources to support the level of
sophistication and difficulty that the student research projects require.

The three organizations that our CACs have identified will help prepare the next generation of STEM
innovators fueling a pipeline of knowledge and expertise, said Justin Land, Northeast Public Affairs
Manager at Dow. The sustainable quality-of-life contributions that students will make, from their
communities to our global ecosystem, all begin with caring mentors and investment in their futures.
