CDA Competency Goal Six

To Maintain a Commitment to Professionalism:

I enjoy working with children and encourage their curiosity and willingness to explore, manipulate and
experiment, providing age- appropriate guidance. I intend to keep my center friendly, safe, clean and
constructive. I never leave any child unattended. When I am working with the kids, I show compassion and
respect individualities, I show patience and tolerance. I have a positive attitude. I set clear, fair limits and
avoid making unimportant rules.
I strive to be a positive model for the children, by exhibiting appropriate manners, behavior and using correct
vocabulary and grammar. Also, I observe and enforce the rules of the center and its policies. Thus, I follow all
the principles of health, sanitation and safety of the institution. Besides, I respect parents and acknowledge
they are the most influential people in their childrens lives. I communicate by holding teacher- parents
conferences, writing reports, talking at departure time and on the phone. However, I respect the
confidentiality of children, parents and staff.
Finally, I understand the principles and goals of the curriculum we adhere in our institution. What is more, I
cooperate with other members of the staff and also work individually to meet the standards of our program.
Since I understand childrens development, I prepare developmentally appropriate activities and I have
reasonable expectations when planning. Nevertheless, I seek training and professional development
continuously.
