BAILEY HIGH SCHOOL

MEMORANDUM
To: Bailey High School Staff
From: Kelsey Bailey, Principal
Date: Wednesday, June 18th, 2014
Re: Introduction
It is with immense honor and excitement that I write to you as the newly appointed principal of
Bailey High School. My early interactions with faculty members, support staff and students
speak to a school community that has fostered an environment fit for success.
For those of you who do not know me, I am originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Before
coming to Bailey HS I started my career in education as a high school physical education and
health teacher. I have also taught high school chemistry and biology and have experience in both
special and elementary education. I earned my B.S. from the University of Utah in Exercise and
Sports Science as well as Physical Education Teacher Education, and my M. Ed. from Colorado
State University in Educational Leadership and Administration. These experiences have opened
my eyes to the diversity that exists in the educational system, and the unique needs each building
requires. I am elated to bring my skills as a leader to Bailey HS and to partner with you to ensure
our students success.
My educational philosophy stems from my belief in providing learning environments that enable
all students to learn and grow through rich, diverse and relevant experiences that prepare them
for a healthy and productive adult life. This is where you come in, as I also believe that this goal
cannot be achieved without the partnership between staff, parents and community members.
When these groups work together we will be able to build upon the rich history that has been
established here.
My democratic style of leadership lends itself to working collaboratively with you as we
continue to develop and implement plans to improve our school. I believe in an open door policy
and encourage each of you to stop by if you have questions, concerns or ideas. Your voices are of
value to me and I will strive to meet the needs of each department and teacher as they relate to
the school. I will continue to nurture an environment that promotes a learning community
characterized by whole child teaching, excellence in all endeavors, developmentally appropriate
instruction, trust, community involvement and recognition of both student and staff achievement.
Above all else I am committed to helping each one of you achieve your best by setting high
expectations for our staff. Our position as educators is unique in that we are provided
opportunities to emulate the characteristics and skills we aim to see in our students. When we as
adults demonstrate these same traits our students will see their true value.
I am privileged to have the opportunity to join this group of talented and hard-working
professionals. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you, and seeing daily the
differences you make for the students in our school.
