Reality wise Master of Arts in Nursing would took time and great effort to pursue,

then again why would a college graduate and a registered nurse like me who in the first
place was pushed to take up nursing. The profession that I took up might be impelled
thats why I really dont take this seriously.
Consequently, things change and realizations arrived as I was exposed further in
my college years. This profession is like a vocation that needs knowledge and heart,
because if you have those things you would strive for the best in the service that you
are doing. As I graduated being exposed in a different hospital setting, which is UP-PGH
as a volunteer and trainee, I realized that nursing is indeed a science and an art. A
science which you need to act according to proven facts and an art where in you act
with aesthetics and care on it. Taking up masters for me would mean improving and
providing facts on the care that nurses like us render. That life is inviolable so I, as a
healthcare provider, should act on facts not on theories and try to contribute for the
betterment of this profession. Apart from it, the other motivation for me in taking masters
is to provide an evidence based practice to my patients. That the research portion on
the course would push me to furnish my responsibility as a nurse in providing a basis on
evidence based practice. The privilege to teach and impart the knowledge to those
chose this profession also inspires me to pursue taking up masters.

Brief description on research interest:

According to National Kidney and Transplant Institute, kidney disease especially
End Stage Renal Disease(ESRD) is the 7 th leading cause of death among Filipinos and
according to the Department of Health (DOH) close to 23,000 Filipinos underwent
dialysis due to kidney failure in 2013, nearly four times higher than the 4,000 cases
recorded in 2004, or a 10 to 15 percent increase a year. That is the reason why my
research took an interest on ascertaining the relationship of symptom, level of symptom
relief and quality of life among hemodialysis patients. Through this research the nurses
would raise the awareness on assessing the hemodialysis patient wholistically for them
to provide a quality care to increase the total quality of life especially on those who need
palliative care. Through the study nurses would realise that dialysis as a treatment has
its pros and cons; and as a nurse we should be assertive in dealing with the patient to
increase their quality of life.
