A2 Magazine Questionnaire

How often do you read film magazine reviews?

With the growth of the
internet many magazine
companies have moved from
paper magazines to a digital
version. In many cases they
produce both. When I asked
this question the two top
answers were Once in a
while and Almost never
with only one saying
frequently. This evidence
points towards my audience
not reading my magazine
review. This question would
be more effective if I could
have asked a wider audience
with more surveys being
filled including participants
with a larger age scale. Even
with these low scores a
magazine review should still
be made because, as my
questionnaire stated a film
audience still reads magazine
reviews Once in a while.
These scores were expected as every review has moved into the digital age and
takes advantage of such review sharing sites as IMDB

Do you find that film magazines influence your decision to go and watch
a film?
The main goal for a film magazine review is to sell to the audience why the film
is worth watching. The results I got from this question were very equal. By a
small margin the majority of my participants are influenced to go see a film by
the review whilst a large amount isnt. This still means the magazine review
should be made as it can still attract a large audience. 25% of my participants
stated that they are sometimes influence by a magazine to watch a movie.
These people will be swayed if the review is good. This gives further reason for a
good magazine to be made.

Would you prefer to have a

paperback film review or an
online review?

With the introduction of the

internet and the increasing
ease to access this from such
devices as a phone or tablet,
the film fan is turning to the
internet for their film reviews.
This has caused the sale
numbers for film magazine to
drop but they are still maintaining with such magazines as Empire. The results I
received from my participants evidence this change as a clear majority of the
participants would prefer an online review rather than a paperback review. This
evidence doesnt affect my review as it is designed to be paperback but the
review itself can be uploaded onto online review sites also.

Is a star rating system for a magazine review needed? (5/5 stars)

When researching film magazine reviews I noticed that 100% of the reviews that
I researched had a rating system to give a film an overall score. This is normally
in the final verdict box. Most of these reviews used a star system. 1 star being
seen as poor and 5 stars being represented as the best. Other reviews also
adopted this method but not using stars but rather other icons. Whilst over
missed it completely and used a percentage rating system. The vast majority of
my participants agreed that a star rating system is needed in a film review with
only 1 disagreeing. With this evidence plus my previous research my magazine
film review will adopt the star rating method.

How many pages should one

film review cover?

A magazine review has to limit
the space and sizes of the
reviews to make them able to fit
into one magazine. My
researched discovered that
bigger, more anticipated, films
had a double page spread film
review. Whilst more independent
films only had one page or were
placed to the side of another review. The most common result for how many
pages a film review should cover was 2 pages. This was the result I was hoping
for because it allows me to use a double page spread for my film review. This
provides me with more room for pictures and texts. When reading a film review
magazine the more anticipated films get larger review space usually containing
larger images to draw the eye first.

How much would you expect to pay for a film review magazine?

The cost of a film magazine is

what drives a large area of the
audience away. They instead
use online reviews which the
majority are free (Some
contain costs). The average
price my participants
answered was around the 3
pounds area. Some of the
most popular film magazine
have prices up to 15. The low
asking price by my
participants would mean a
reduced quality in the
magazine in an entirety.
