Model UN Perspective Paper

Islamic Republic of Iran
Although North Korea is a rogue state and doesnt have many allies because of its
secrecy and nuclear weapons threats, Iran believes that North Korea has the right to develop
nuclear weapons to protect them from other countries as well as to help its allies develop nuclear
energy when the rest of the world wont.
Iran is the eighteenth largest country in the world. It has a population of around seventyeight million people. That means that Iran has to have some sort of nuclear program in the works.
Either a program for energy or a weapons program. The United States is fearful of the second
one because Iran is full of people that dislike the US for meddling in their government. Because
of the many accusations of having nuclear weapons, Iran has shot down the accusations by
sending what they had to Turkey in exchange for fuel for nuclear power plants. The US and the
United Nations have continued to not trust Iran, and its nuclear program. They continue to place
sanctions against weapons and trade in Iran. Between the many sanctions and other countries not
trusting them, Iran has turned to some countries in the same boat as them. That being Syria and
North Korea. An example of this was what the U.S. intelligence community said, North Koreas
export of ballistic missiles and associated materials to several countries, including Iran and Syria,
and its assistance to Syrias construction of a nuclear reactor illustrate the reach of its
proliferation activities.(Rogin) Iran and North Korea have stepped up their relations with each
other over the last few years. Both countries have signed an agreement stating that their two

technological societies will combine and work together. It will bring the two countries, deeply at
odds with the US, closer together. They will be setting up joint scientific and technological
laboratories, exchange of scientific teams between the two countries and transfer of technology
in the fields of information technology, energy, environment, agriculture and food, which North
Korea has been stockpiling. North Korea could be helping Iran set up a new nuclear program,
which could have the possibility of nuclear weapons. This shows that the two countries have
helped each other move forward in the twenty first century.

The country of Irans solution to the rising problems in North Korea are to let them keep
their nuclear weapons and energy. Iran believes this is the right option because if they had
everything they needed or wanted, they wouldnt want to mess with the bigger powers in the
world. If the sanctions placed on North Korea were taken away, they wouldnt threaten to attack
other countries to take the resources they needed. The North Korean government would be able
to order everything they needed from other countries. Plus, the countries that already feed North
Korean citizens would be able to keep their food. If North Korea were to need any international
help against the US, Iran would then step in to help. If another party were to violate the rights of
North Korea having its nuclear program, then N. Koreas allie would be able to help protect it
and if necessary, use military action against the opposing country.
