Model UN Perspective Paper

Islamic Republic of Iran
Although Iran is a rogue state and has made an enemy out of most of the western world,
it has backed up the idea of itself helping return the Palestinians to their homeland and
destroying the Zionist movement in the middle east.
Iran and Israel have had a long, confusing, history starting back in 1948. At first Iran and
Israel were on great terms. They constantly helped each other in dealing with nearby countries.
The main reason they gravitated towards each other was because Iran favored the fact that Israel
was different than the Arab nationalist movement that was beginning in other countries situated
around Iran. The two countries also traded many resources. Iran supplied oil to Israel and Israel
trained agricultural experts, supplied technical know-how and helped build and train the Iranian
armed forces in return.(Latschan) During the 1970s, Iran went through a change in government
and the president ended all affiliation with Israel. Even though they hated each other on the
surface, they continued to secretly aid each other during the Iran-Iraq war, more specifically
when there was talk about Iraq making nuclear weapons. Tehran, the capital of Iran, and
Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, didnt like the idea of nuclear weapons in Iraq, so the Iranians
secretly told the Israelis about a location that could be making nuclear weapons and the Israelis
bombed the nuclear plant in Iraq. Then there was a scandal about weapons being sold by the US
to Tehran. Israel was a big part of this. Once this was out in the open, and Iraq was weakened,
Iran no longer needed Israel and started to question the Palestinian problems. This started the

main problems that we see today. Iran has disliked Israel because they pushed out the
Palestinians, which are Arabs. Why would it affect an Islamic nation? Its not their problem.
While Iran would opt to destroy the Israelis, this is a more humane resolution based on
what Iran believes to be the most helpful to the Middle east, yet understanding that they must
create consensus within the United Nations.
Iran has decided that Israel should give at least half of the land that is designated as
Israel, including the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, to the Palestinian refugees in the surrounding
countries of Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon. Irans real request is that Israel be terminated
altogether, but that would once again displace millions of Israeli people plus would be very
inhumane. That is why the Once the refugees are brought into their new land, the UN will
appoint Palestine a new country. Israel and surrounding nation should provide materials for the
Palestinians to rebuild their homes and public spaces that include electricity and basic
necessities. A sanction will be put on the Israeli people and the Palestinian people as to make
them not attack each other over land and religious differences. This will hopefully create some
sort of peace in that area. Besides the split of the country, there will be a fifteen mile open space
between the two territories that will be a peace zone of sorts. People will only be able to build
there if they have come to peace with the new set up of the territories. If the Israelis attack the
Palestinians, the UN must send in military action to stop the violence and moderate a return to
peace. Likewise with the Palestinians attacking the Israelis. Iran supports this, as long as the
Palestinians get land that isnt borrowed and is theirs.
