The teams vision of the future is a utopia where nothing is waste. Materials
from (C&D) are reused or recycled on
site with minimal down cycling. C&D
will become a circular economy with
a focus on environmental care where
obtaining raw materials from nature will
be significantly more expensive than
reusing or recycling material. There will
be a need for safer and more reliable
product-service system solutions in
combination with designing for a coexistence between autonomous construction vehicles and manual labor as
urban areas become denser.
So, instead, it is
trucked off site.

Prototypes
After we prototyped a (1) storage container able to hold 3 tons of sand, we began to develope different emptying techniques. We tested three mechanisms:
(2) an auger, (3) a trap door, and (4) a flexible bottom.

Design Strategy
Early in the spring quarter, we will need to solidify our design of the final panels. Materials selection
will be very important, as the panels must be both strong and lightweight. In the coming weeks, we should
run FEA simulations on our rough design to get an order of magnitude of stresses on the panels and begin to narrow
down possible materials and determine lead times associated with the manufacturing techniques
required for these materials. After selecting materials, we will need to decide on a final design for both the
panels and the dumping base. Because this final design must be built for EXPE in June, we must design for manufacturability based on recommendations from our manufacturing coach. Finally, we will have to develop a plan to create
the panels and select suppliers.
