Two Uighurs shot on China-Vietnam border

Two men of a five Uighurs group, who were from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
and tried to illegally enter Vietnam, were shot and killed by Chinese police in
southern China on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred when police intercepted a van carrying five Uighur stowaways
on a highway in Pingxiang city in the southern region of Guangxi, near Lang Son
city, Vietnam.
According to the China Daily, the Uighurs violently resisted arrest and two of them
attacked police with knives before being killed. Two other members were detained
and one escaped to the vicinity. A wide search was underway for the man who fled
by armed police.
Dilxat Raxit, the spokesman for the World Uygur Congress, told that China is using
extreme means like shooting and killing these people in order to intimidate other
Uighurs who wish to escape. He also affirmed that there was a direct relationship
between Chinas repressive policies and the increase in those trying to escape.
