7.24UserDefinedFanModel
TheuserdefinedfanmodelinFLUENTallowsyoutoperiodicallyregenerateaprofilefilethatcanbe
usedtospecifythecharacteristicsofafan,includingpressurejumpacrossthefan,andradialand
swirlingcomponentsofvelocitygeneratedbythefan.
Forexample,considerthecalculationofthepressurejumpacrossthefan.Youcan,throughthestandard
interface,inputaconstantforthepressurejump,specifyapolynomialthatdescribesthepressurejumpas
afunctionofaxialvelocitythroughthefan,oruseaprofilefilethatdescribesthepressurejumpasa
functionoftheaxialvelocityorlocationatthefanface.Ifyouuseaprofilefile,thesameprofilewillbe
usedconsistentlythroughoutthecourseofthesolution.Suppose,however,thatyouwanttochangethe
profileastheflowfielddevelops.Thiswouldrequireaperiodicupdatetotheprofilefileitself,based
uponsomeinstructionsthatyousupply.Theuserdefinedfanmodelisdesignedtohelpyoudothis.
Tousethismodel,youneedtogenerateanexecutablethatreadsafanprofilefilethatiswrittenby
FLUENT,andwritesoutamodifiedone,whichFLUENTwillthenread.Thesourcecodeforthis
executablecanbewritteninanyprogramminglanguage(FortranorC,forexample).Yourprogramwill
becalledandexecutedautomatically,accordingtoinputsthatyousupplythroughthestandardinterface.
