Argument Essay

For this essay you are free to choose your own topic. But you must run
the topic by me as together we want to be sure it is manageable. And
try to find a topic that you feel some true interest in. It will help you
write an interesting paper.
As you think about your topic, keep in mind the 3 types of rhetorical
appeals- logos, pathos, and ethos. You will want to incorporate all three
(though you may emphasize one, logos, more than others). Because it
is a research paper, your research will help establish your credibility
(ethos), and your formatting and correct grammar etc. will also help on
that front.
Remember, thus far we have used three rhetorical modes description,
narration and exemplification. You will use these in your argument
paper. Each skill becomes an essential tool to all of your writing.
It is essential in this paper that you include research. Though your
research neednt be extensive, you must use the MMA databases
and/or the NYTimes. Further, you will be required to summarize the
basics of the articles you use to support your arguments and those you
use as representative counterarguments. This simply means clear intext mention of the writer, article title, and basic ideas contained
therein.
Format is once again MLA with Works Cited and in-text citations. As we
move towards last part of semester, it is a good idea to try to achieve
grammatical correctness, proper punctuation, strong word choices and
correct formatting in the final draft of your paper. You should be
strengthening some of these skills through practice and the revisions
you have done thus far. Length 4 5 pages.
