Day 1: Identifying Prepositions

Materials and Resources: (1) Preposition Song lyrics (2) Preposition PowerPoint (3) tape-in
(4) Writers Notebook (5) workbook page 211 (6) pencil
Lesson Introduction
To begin the lesson, the teacher will start the Preposition

She will play the Brainpop video. (Click on squirrel).
Procedure
1. After the video, the teacher will ask the students to explain

2. Go over the definition and examples of a preposition on
slides 2 and 3.
3. When you get to slide 4, STOP. It is time to sing the
Preposition Song. Pass out the lyrics. Students should tape
these into their notebooks. Inform students that there will be a
quiz on the first review day where they must list 20
prepositions.
4. Tell students that this song is to the tune of Yankee Doodle.
Sing through it twice. ALL STUDENTS SHOULD
PARTICIPATE.
5. After the song, students should receive the preposition
tape-in. The teacher will read over it.
6. For guided practice, the teacher will call on students to
answer the practice problems on slides 5-15.
