TEK 6.

10 B classify rocks as metamorphic, igneous, or sedimentary by the

process of their formation

The Rock Cycle

Rocks are continuously
changed from one type of
rock to another

Igneous rocks are formed

from magma that pushes
up from deep inside the
earth.

Existing rock when

pushed deep
underground can
undergo heat
and pressure to
form
metamorphic
rock.

Rocks located
at the
surface are
weathered
and
eroded.

Heat from
internal
forces form
igneous and
metamorphi
c rocks.

Sediments and
sedimentary
rock result
from external
forces at the
surface of the
earth which
are powered
by the Sun.

Both internal
and external
forces acting
on Earth
combine to
create the
rock cycle.

Color the arrows for each

process as we review the
rock cycle.
