HOW THE WORLD WORKS

STUDENT SELF ASSESSMENT
Central Idea: Through scientific investigation we can measure, predict, explain and
understand the world.
Lines of Inquiry:
1. The different states of matter
2. How matter changes
3. How scientists investigate
Instructions: Evaluate your performance and progress throughout the How the World
Works Unit as well as on your work during the summative task.
Unit:
Success Criteria
I can explain the different states of matter.

Evaluation

I can explain the difference between a chemical change and a

physical change.
I can explain the cause for different physical and chemical
changes.
I understand the steps of the scientific method and how scientists
use them to solve problems and answer questions.
Summative Task:
Success Criteria
I can research and choose an experiment that shows a physical or
chemical change.
I can explain whether the change in my experiment was physical
or chemical.
I can explain the cause of the physical or chemical change in my
experiment.
I can follow the scientific method step by step (question,
hypothesis, experiment, observations, analysis, conclusion) in
order to answer a question or solve a problem.
I can present the data I collected and the observations I made
