Step-by-Step Plan
Time
(What exactly do you plan to
do in teaching this lesson? Be
thorough. Act as if you needed
a substitute to carry out the
lesson for you.)
Where applicable, be sure to
address the following:

What Higher Order

Thinking (H.O.T.) questions
will you ask?

How will materials be

distributed?

Who will work together

in groups and how will you
determine the grouping?

How will students

transition between
activities?

What will you as the

teacher do?

What will the students

do?

What student data will

be collected during each
phase?

What are other adults in

the room doing? How are
they supporting students
learning?

What model of coteaching are you using?

Who is
responsible

Each content area may require a different step-by-step format. Use

whichever plan is appropriate for the content taught in this lesson.
For example, in science, you would detail the 5 Es here
(Engage/Encountering the Idea; Exploring the Idea;
Explanation/Organizing the Idea; Extend/Applying the Idea;
Evaluation).

How do the characters change from the beginning to the end?

How can I figure out the meaning of a word or phrase I dont
know? How is Dex feeling right now?
I will distribute materials myself.
I will be grouping them in pairs based on abilities and behaviors.
I will call them to and from the carpet and give them directions
then.
I will instruct, model, release, and help.
The students will listen, answer questions, work in pairs, and join
back with me.
The are observing.
I will read through the story and discuss the words that I have
chosen. I will model how I can look at the context of that word and
figure out its meaning and write that on the graphic organizer. I will
release them to find their pre-chosen words with a partner. After
time is up we will come back together to discuss our findings.

What will you do if

a student struggles with the content?

Help them look in the text for the context.

What will you do if

a student masters the content quickly?

Ask them to find more words not in the graphic organizer and try to find their
meanings as well.

Meeting your students

needs as people and as
learners

If applicable, how does this lesson connect to the interests and cultural
backgrounds of your students?
They love superheros and that is what this story is about.
If applicable, how does this lesson connect to/reflect the local community?
Sometimes we have to figure out the meanings of words without something
like a dictionary.
How will you differentiate instruction for students who need additional
challenge during this lesson (enrichment)?
The students will be getting graphic organizers with pre-chosen words from
the text. based on the pairs of students they will get different levels of words
to define. So if they need enrichment, they will go on to find even more words
that are not listed on their graphic organizer.
How will you differentiate instruction for students who need additional
language support?
Pair them with a non-ELL, assist them in any way I can.

Accommodations (If

needed)
(What students need specific
accommodation? List individual
students (initials), and then
explain the accommodation(s)
you will implement for these
unique learners.)
Materials
(What materials will you use?
Why did you choose these
materials? Include any
resources you used. This can
also include people!)

I will use the Journeys text along with a self-made graphic organizer. I chose theses
because the story is good, however the given materials to aid it were weak so I created
my own.
