PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Personal Statement
I am passionate and driven to work within the healthcare field, devoting my time to
individuals seeking services, as well as my peers. I live by the belief that everyone deserves the
best care and opportunities to increase their overall quality of life. I will employ my personal
experiences and education to develop personally and professionally to be successful within all of
my life roles.
Mission Statement
It is my mission to utilize my strengths continuously to foster personal and professional
relationships. I will use my knowledge and commitment to live a balanced lifestyle to provide
individuals with the skills required to increase their quality of life through personally, meaningful
occupations. I aim to inspire others to communicate with one another to promote collaboration
and teamwork. I will thrive in a job that allows me to be challenged while helping improve the
quality of life of others as well as providing them with a sense of hope and ambition. My lifes
journey is to better myself personally and professionally through the assistance of others. My
most important future contribution will be remaining patient and open-minded with clients and
encouraging them every step of the way. I will strive to continue my education throughout my
life and incorporate this knowledge along with my caring and loving nature to be the best
occupational therapist I can be.
Strengths
To develop into a leader within the occupational therapy profession, it is important to
understand ones personal strengths. With the knowledge of ones personal strengths, you can
maximize your skills and use them to achieve personal and professional goals. Personal strengths

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN

I believe will help me pursue my future leadership goals include discipline, organization, a
futuristic thinking process, and a drive to be an achiever. I have always valued discipline and
organization with every task, project, and event I have been involved in. Components related to
organization I also view of significance includes being timely, prepared, and having the ability to
prioritize.
Futuristic thinking is a strength which I can relate to where I am today in my educational
journey, and where I see myself in the coming future. It helps me look ahead at what I want to
accomplish in the future to set goals and develop a plan to reach these objectives over a timeline,
ultimately helping me achieve my future leadership goals.
My overall personality trait as an achiever increases my drive to fulfill my aspirations and
reach my goals. Without the strength of being an achiever, I believe that the other strengths I
portray within my life would not be as beneficial or successful in helping me conquer my overall
leadership goals.
Growth Needs
Identifying ones areas of growth are imperative to continue developing personally and
professionally. The greatest area of growth, I believe I need to work on is my confidence.
Increasing my confidence will improve my ability to demonstrate my skills as a future
occupational therapist and overall decision-making skills. I have always wavered away from
making decisions when other individuals are involved. This can be an important aspect of
leadership. Therefore, my confidence should be a focus of improvement, to ultimately increase
my decision-making skills and ability to implement interventions and programs.

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Leadership Model
After considering and completing multiple leader style assessments, I believe my
leadership style is a transformational leader. The components which make up a transformational
leader include idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and
individualized consideration. Reflection on these elements, I believe this style represents me
well. I tend to jump head first into projects with others dedicating myself to avoid letting other
group members down. I also feel I can see problems from a different point of view and can
provide a new way to look at other interpretations, encouraging new ideas. With the knowledge
of my leadership style, I believe I can increase my effectiveness as a leader, embracing my
strengths and style as a leader.
