After completing various AS levels in Maidstone Girls Grammar School, I passed the Youth
University Progression course at Mid Kent College. This course involves;

- Extended Project Qualification (6000 word dissertation)
This course has given me the opportunity to learn independently and help me manage my
time keeping skills balancing college life, work life and a social life.
After successfully completing this course I gained a place at Writtle College where I am now
in my final year studying a foundation degree in animal science. Throughout the course I
have studied: Anatomy and physiology, nutrition, behaviour, biological processes,
reproduction and genetics and animal health science.
I have an Award in Dance Leadership and a Community Sports Leader Award (CSLA ),
which includes a first aid certificate.
In December 2010 I qualified for BHS stage 1.
Experiences and employment
(October - December 2010) I was a waitress at the North Pole Pub/Restaurant in
Wateringbury. My duties included presenting food to the customers and clearing tables.
During my employment at this pub I learnt waiting skills and became more confident in
dealing with customers
(November - December 2010) I have also participated in voluntary work at a primary school
as a dance teacher. I taught children aged 5-6 for my Community Sports Leader Award. This

work taught me how to lead a small group of children. I also learnt how to organise and
present my own lessons.
( July- September summer 2011) I had two summer jobs; the first was as a farm assistant at
The Hop Farm, duties included caring for the animals and giving good customer service. At
the Hop Farm I gained skills in animal management and care.
My second summer job was working as a Youth Worker for Play Place, this role involved
carrying out activities and playing games with children ages 2-13.
(December 2011 Present) I worked part time at Wetherspoons as a bar associate. Duties
included serving customers to the companies standards, clearing tables, waitressing and
closing down the two bars. While at wetherspoons, I gained skills in bar duties and further
developed my skills in customer service. After starting university, I only work during study
breaks.
Work experience placements
I have completed a number of work experience placements. In April 2012, I shadowed a
veterinary nurse for three weeks at a practice. I gained skills in animal handling and
expanded my knowledge. In 2009 I worked in a horse stables for a week for my year 11 work
experience. These duties involved mucking out horses, sweeping the yard and preparing
horses for lessons.
Personal qualities and interests
I see myself as a motivated, responsible and outgoing individual. Employees have described
me as enthusiastic and conscientious. Previous work experience has shown me that I learn
new skills quickly. Working as a team is also rewarding as I enjoy interacting with new
people and helping others complete tasks.
My main interest outside of studying is horse riding. Having previously owned a horse for 5
years, I progressed in my riding. After selling my horse and joining university I have had a lot
less time to ride. However, I try to fit lessons in during my free time.

I am an ambitious individual with knowledge and experience in animal care. Past and current
experience shows that I am capable of leading a team in the day to day running of an animal
centre. I have gained excellent communication skills and customer service by working for a
large chain company for a number of years. I am currently looking for a suitable position in
an animal care centre that will allow me to utilize my pre-existing skills and further develop
my leadership abilities.

My extended project topic was How successful are breeding programmes in zoos for
endangered species. While writing my extended project I expanded my knowledge in this
area through research and improved my writing skills.
After successfully completing this course I gained a place at Writtle College where I am
now in my final year studying a foundation degree in animal science. Throughout the
course I have studied: Anatomy and physiology, nutrition, behaviour, biological processes,
reproduction and genetics and animal health science. Additionally, the foundation course has
allowed me to develop my employability skills and practical experience by requiring that I
complete 200 hours work experience.

April 2013
For the learning through work module in the first year of my degree, I worked as a stable
hand for the military stables at Sandhurst military academy. My duties included, mucking out
the horses, exercising the horses, helping the instructors teaching younger children,
grooming horses, cleaning military tack. This placement really improved my confidence with
animal handling as I was working with some of the strongest and largest animals in the
domestic animal industry.
November 2014
I volunteered at a wildlife rescue centre called Wildlives. I assisted in the day to day care of
the sick animals. My duties included, cleaning out the animals, helping with any medication
they may need, assisting in the day to day tasks of the rescue centre. Volunteering at a
wildlife centre improved my knowledge in this sector greatly. Additionally, it became clear to
me that these were the kind of animals I wanted to work with.
January- present
I began volunteering at Folly wildlife rescue for the learning from work module of my degree.
I started off assisting in the basic cleaning duties of the animals across the units in the
hospital, carry out day to day duties such as the laundry, washing up and cleaning and
recording patient details. As my skills and understanding have greatly improved, I have been
given further duties of bathing the injured and sick animals, administering supplements and

even leading a team of volunteers to complete tasks given to us at the beginning of the day. I
have also been given the duty of staying in the hospital overnight for security and to check
on baby animals that have been coming in more recently. After completing my work
experience hours, I have decided to continue working as a volunteer.
